For Happiness, Peace & Ease, SURRENDER!

Many people struggle and fight their whole lives to find happiness, peace and ease. It doesn’t really matter what the fight is but it translates into a feeling of constantly being at war. There is effort at every turn and let’s be frank here, if you are looking for the negative side, it’s always there. For every positive there is a negative and you have the choice to sound the alarm, arm yourself and go into battle or you can SURRENDER.

Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up and losing nor does it make you a victim of your circumstances. Surrendering means putting down your weapons, letting go of ego, giving up the fight and accepting that which IS. Accepting that which IS in present time takes your energy out of the battle and frees you. It brings a sense of happiness, peace and ease which only comes from bringing all that you are back to you and accepting there is something going on which you cannot control. To be sure there will always be something you can go into battle for but when you surrender and let go of the fight itself you have actually just won the battle!

Are you in a constant battle in your life? Do you feel like you always have to ‘fight’ to get what you want? Are you struggling on a money quest, to find love or to lose weight? Are you fighting your body or resisting illness? Is there peace and ease in your relationships (including the one with yourself) or do you find yourself in effort and either ‘people pleasing’ or trying to live up to someone else’s vision of who you are? Are you in a battle with an addiction to sex, love, drugs, alcohol or some other type of obsession?

Whatever you are fighting and/or anytime you find yourself struggling the more you fight it, the less chance you have of winning the fight. I want to make it very clear here that I’m not referring to those who have an illness and are doing everything possible to fight for their lives. That is a very different kind of fight. Most of the people in that situation have accepted what is happening and take the necessary steps to heal their body and spirit. I’m also not referring to the things we must fight for globally like human rights, truth and justice. We all must take a stand and fight for those things. I’m referring to the  battles which exist in your mind that imprison you. The internal dialogues and battles which take root and cause you to constantly feel like your fighting to become visible and valuable in the outer world.

Not one thing said here has anything to do with giving up. It’s just the opposite. Happiness, peace and ease comes from being one with your life in the present moment. Being one with your life is accepting what IS then doing something about it. If you are at war fighting your circumstances you’ll have very little energy left for anything else. Your circumstance (or growth period) is not who you are. You don’t live your life, life lives through you and your choices. It is when you give up trying to fight and control every little thing that comes up that you will feel a sense of ease.

Surrender to who you are and the feelings in your heart. Throw in the towel. Raise the white flag. Imagine how life will be when you win; And you do win the very second you decide to let go and surrender. Imagine a life full of happiness, peace and ease. Twinkle, twinkle little star, you light the darkness from afar…

In this vast universe of many galaxies, we are but a small  blip on the radar. We are merely a pinpoint of light in our own galaxy yet there are times when our personal world feels larger than life, unmanageable and out of control. It is those dark, out of control times when it’s time to our realign yourself and find a star to light your way.

Everything that happens in life happens for a reason even if you don’t see what it is at first. It might take years before you put together the pieces of the puzzle but when you are finally able to fit those pieces together you find clarity and understanding. Clarity and understanding is only the beginning. Just like everything else understanding why  is a process of clearing which leads to self forgiveness and healing.

When you are ready to heal you see a twinkling star in the darkness and experience the world as a bright magical place. When you are ready to heal you forgive yourself and call back your energy and power. When you are ready to heal you allow inspiration to guide you and end identifying with yourself as a victim. When you are ready to heal you free yourself from the past and take a stand in the present. When you are ready to heal you reconnect with your childlike spirit who at one time, looked up and wondered what the beautiful twinkling light is in the sky….Inside of you is that innocent child who sees the world with wonder and finds magic in a simple flower along the path. Is it time to heal your inner child and have a play date or two? Is it time to let go of a past full of memories that no longer serve your highest good? Only you can answer the question; Are you ready to heal?

The twinkling star in the sky lights your way and is there to remind you that you are not alone in the world. A twinkling star reminds you that there is a beautiful spark of light inside you. There is inspiration and light all around you when you are ready to see it. While it is true all your answers lie within, every now and again we need to look up, give our inner child a hug and point out the twinkling lights.

*Resolve to Evolve*

As the end of the year approaches it’s time to think about  ‘resolutions’ for the new year. It’s also the time to take notice and celebrate your achievements from the last 12 months. The time is NOW to join the EVOLUTION REVOLUTION and resolve to evolve!

What are your resolutions for the coming year? Many people make “body” resolutions like losing weight, quitting smoking or being more active.  These resolutions are great AND very beneficial for your good health. Have you considered making resolutions to grow and change your spirit as well? Your spiritual resolutions are equally important! They could include a daily meditation practice, daily prayer, following your dreams,  expanding inner calm & peace, being more loving and living life from non judgement with awareness.

When you include and put into practice your spiritual goals for the year you create tremendous change, expand your inner (and outer) universe, live from your truth and evolve as spirit! These resolutions bring you back to your spiritual self and knowing who you are. They also help you with the other resolutions because as your attention turns within you are less affected by other energies that constantly pull you away from what you really want!

Keep in mind that New Year’s resolutions often fizzle quickly and I’ve listed a few reasons why this happens. I’ve also listed positive steps you can take so yours don’t fizzle this year.

  1. There was no plan for taking the necessary steps to reach the goal. Make a plan! If you want to lose weight for instance, what needs to happen for you to do it?
  2. The goal wasn’t realistic and within your control. Be realistic! Make sure it’s a good fit for your life and it’s in your control. If it’s out of your control and not a good fit you probably will give up on it.
  3. The expectation was it would happen over night. Start slowly! If you resolve to meditate each day start with 5 or 10 minutes. If you’ve never meditated you are not going to be able to miraculously sit down and quiet your mind for an hour a day.
  4. Impatience & punishment for perceived failure. Patience and forgiveness are the keys for successfully achieving your resolutions. If you stumble forgive yourself and be patient. Get right back up and try again!
  5. Maybe it’s not YOUR resolution. Turn your attention inward and make sure that your resolution is something YOU want and not based on a picture or concept of someone else’s.

Evolution, which includes growth & healing, is a gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually better form. Spiritually there is no time or space but it does take time to manifest in the physical. To begin the process it’s a good idea to do a little review. What were your new year’s resolutions from last year?  What manifested? Where were you successful? What inspired you? In order to know where you’re going, you need to know where you’ve been! Turn your attention within to reflect upon what worked, what didn’t, the dreams that manifested, the changes you’ve made and how far you’ve come in the last year.

Celebrate and honor your successes from last year!

Positive change must be grounded by a strong foundation and your successes ARE that foundation. Building on what you already have achieved  instead of betting your success on the unknown starts that positive change, well, POSITIVELY. :-) When you know you are and have been successful in the past you trust yourself and there will be no doubts about your ability to do, have or create something NEW in the future.

Body Image: What Energy do you SEE?

“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all?” What do you see when you look in the mirror? Did you know that what is reflected back is not always what is truly and uniquely you? How’s your body image these days? Do you love or even like your body?

Everything is energy…

…including your body! When you look into the mirror do you see yourself looking back or are there times when the reflection you see doesn’t quite look like you? Are you always trying to fix or change something? Do you hate your body altogether? Do you think you are unattractive? Do you consider each wrinkle a ‘laugh or wisdom line’ or do you see it as merely getting old?

Enhancing or changing your body is fine but your outer body and the things you dislike many times are a reflection of what’s going on INside and it could very well be that there is a lot of energy you are carrying around which is not yours! It may not be that you hate your body but that you hate the energy you see when you look at yourself. This is an important distinction from wanting to get healthy and lose weight for example. If you don’t like the extra weight, take a few moments to reflect on those things you carry around with you or the pain you are trying to cover up. If you are thin  yet see yourself as heavy reflect on what it is you are still trying to purge from your body.

Change what’s INside first…

There’s nothing wrong with body enhancements but unless you change what’s going on INside nothing you do (whether it be losing or gaining weight, plastic surgery etc) will change how you see and feel about yourself. What is it you don’t want to see? Is it a painful childhood? Are you in pain and/or resisting an illness? Is there energy that stems from constant invalidation? And for the million dollar question….HOW MUCH OF WHAT YOU SEE IS ACTUALLY YOURS? Refelctions of any kind are distorted! Have you ever gone to an amusement park and looked at yourself in one of those funny mirrors? :-)

There is more to you than meets the eye!

Your spirit is beautiful! No matter what your physical body looks like, finding and bringing more of you INside will indeed be reflected on the outside. Your body is not just made up of molecules and particles. Your spiritual energy animates and breathes passion and purpose into your life. If you are comparing yourself to what is considered ‘beautiful’ by some and you don’t feel like you fit that image, you are actually getting stuck on someone else’s (or society’s) picture of beauty!

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!

How you see yourself from your minds eye is reflected on the outside. Behold the beauty of yourself! The more of YOU and your beautiful spirit you allow yourself to see and bring INside the more you show it to others. When you look in the mirror if the outside doesn’t quite match the inside, go ahead and do what you’d like to change your physical body; But by all means be sure to clear out foreign energies and other people’s pictures or concepts of beauty. How would you spend 525,600?

Say I were to give you $525,600 per year for the rest of your life. That’s $1440 per day! I’m sure you can think of many ways to spend it but the catch is you can’t spend any of it on yourself! Altruism aside, how would you feel if you were given that amount of money and couldn’t spend any of it…not one dime, on yourself.

To be sure that’s a lot of money and you might get a little angry if I dropped a sack filled with money on your doorstep every year yet none of it was for you. Wouldn’t it be great if we ALL had $525,600 per year, every year for the rest of our lives! The things we could do, places we could go, the things we could see & experience. If you could use it for yourself would you place value on every $1 and use it to enhance not only your life but the lives of those you hold dear?

Certainly with that kind of money coming in every year your life would change. You’d probably relax, take time to focus on those things and people who are important to you. You’d spend your time and energy on things that make you happy now instead of worrying about the future. Now follow along with me here. What if the ‘currency’ I’m really talking about is your TIME and how you value yourself? Do you value your time and energy as much as the value you place on money? Play along with me here for a few moments! :-)

Every year you have 525,600 valuable minutes. That’s 1440 minutes per day and it renews every year. I wish I could say there is ‘roll-over’ time but that’s it! It’s finite. There is no ‘do over’. Once you’ve ‘spent’ your time it’s done, over, finito. Similar to spending money don’t you think? Every minute has value. What you spend your time and energy focusing on has value just as you have great value. Do you spend some of your precious minutes on YOU? If not it’s very much like the ‘catch’ I mentioned in the beginning of this…you are not placing value on yourself!

So how do you spend your 1440 minutes each day? What could you create with the valuable time you spend thinking about the past or worrying about the future? How many minutes do you spend nurturing your spirit? How many valuable minutes do you string together for beautiful moments in your life?

Noticing where you put your time and energy is the first step toward valuing each moment. With awareness you have a choice about how you’d like to spend your minutes. You can choose to spend time creating wonderful experiences and living life or unable to move forward and stuck in the past. You can choose to love or hate. You can choose to spend your time and energy worrying or creating something new. Whatever you choose, remember that once you’ve spent it, it’s gone and merely a memory. Why not choose to Live On Purpose? :-)

In the movie “RENT” the song “Seasons of Love” says it best. ’525,600 moments so dear…how do you measure a year….’ There is value to who and what you spend time loving. There is value to where you place your time and energy. Be sure to spend time on your most valuable resource….YOU!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Do you have a Fear of Success?

Fear is a powerful energy that can stop you dead in your tracks. It is an energy that can run in the background without you even knowing it. It could simply be that little doubt in the back of your mind or on a larger scale, cause panic attacks, or self sabotage. Typically we delve into letting go of our fear of failure but there is another side to it; The fear of success.

Rather than focus on failure, it is helpful to focus on success. If you are focusing on failure, guess what’s going to happen? You are probably successful in many areas of your life but there’s this one thing….the one you want most which eludes you. Do you have a picture of what life would be like if you succeeded in that particular area? If you can’t see your success clearly it’s time to begin seeing yourself as successful! :-)

Fear is a funny thing. Not the haha kind of funny but interesting to look at. If you’ve been unsuccessful achieving your dream there may be an underlying invalidation or a doubt in your mind that says you ‘can’t do it’ because you’re somehow not worthy or good enough to have it. There is also the ‘what will I do then’ thought. Oh yes, that one! If your focus has always been on say losing weight, what will you focus on once you hit your goal? If you’ve spent time and energy trying to ‘find the one’, what happens when you do?

If you succeed at the very thing you’ve wanted most whether it be happiness, love, a successful career, a family, it means life as you know it will completely change and you must focus your time and energy on something else. Many people (maybe not YOU but many people) are so comfortable in the seeking that just when success is in their grasp they quit because they don’t believe they can succeed or can’t picture what life will be like once they get it.

When you create a clear picture in your mind of having the relationship you want, losing weight, visualizing your book being published, painting or putting an idea on paper, a successful career, whatever it is for you, trust me the fear will come up! Just let it bubble up and then send it on its merry way! :-)

Here’s where it get REALLY interesting=>Is the fear really yours? AH HA! Take everything I just wrote and throw it out the window because more often than not the energy of fear you experience IS NOT YOURS! In fact, any energy that doesn’t feel good, is out of your control or stops you from moving forward IS NOT YOURS!

Take a moment to ponder this. When you are successful in ALL areas of your life, it changes in ways you can’t even imagine. What does that mean for your friends and family? Might one or two of them be uncomfortable because they don’t feel successful in some area of their own life? Are you being ‘nice’ and not taking steps toward your success so others are comfortable?

I now recommend you take a deep breath! Let go of everything that just came up for you. Indeed it might not be a fear of failure that gets in the way but the fear of actually succeeding…and that fear might not even be yours so LET IT GO! ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Light at the end of a tunnel

Honor What You’ve Been Through

This post was inspired by a recent very insightful reading session

In life there are events that have a profound transformational effect on our lives. It could be an illness/disease, an injury, an accident, sudden death of a loved one, a major upheaval or uncovering truth about a person, a relationship or situation. Often times these events are traumatic and take years to recover from and heal.

The tendency when a major event happens is to ask ‘how did’ or ‘why did’ this or that happen. Sometimes we dwell on it or become a victim to it and other times we pack it away and ignore it altogether because we are just trying to put the pieces back together, make sense of it all and return to a ‘normal’ life.

It’s important to remember that the cathartic events in our lives are pivotal and lead to true healing and transformation. These events hit so hard that you have no choice but to open your eyes to the fact that you will no longer be able to live your life ‘business as usual’.  They cause you to change direction and more often than not this reality shift is very positive even if it doesn’t feel like it while you are going through it.

Once you have acknowledged and accepted what has happened and you begin to see the ‘light at the other end of the tunnel’ it is time to embrace and honor the enormity of what you just went through. Letting go and then taking back your energy and power is only a part of the healing process. Honoring that you’ve just been through something, allowing yourself to process and feel your feelings about it is just as important as letting go and moving on!

It’s not so much about honoring the experience in detail but that you’ve actually come through something SO big that it rocked your world to the very core. This is precisely the time to be extra gentle with yourself, rest and meditate more. You may need to forgive yourself if you blame yourself and think it’s your fault for not being able to control the situation or that you somehow could have prevented it from happening in the first place.

Cathartic events are gifts! They open your eyes and make you realize what is really important to you! They offer you a chance to see with clarity how strong you are! They give you the opportunity to know you can persevere, change and heal those things which you have control over; Your energy, your thoughts and how you live your life.

If you are in the middle of one of these major life changing events remember that it’s always darkest before the dawn and this too shall pass. Once it has passed, honor that what you’ve been through has forever effected and changed your mind, body & spirit. Decide to move forward with renewed strength, fortitude and the knowledge you’ve just received!~Shine Your Light Debbie

What are you feeling?

This is a guest post by Stevie Ray Robison. It really speaks to getting to the bottom of things.

What are you feeling?

It’s a simple question. But it’s not always so easy to answer. Especially when we’re feeling less than our best.

I remember a time walking on the beach. I was confused about the relationship I was in, wanting it to be different, clinging to expectations. I was led to continue to dig deeper. I kept asking “what’s under that?” The conversation with myself went something like this…

“What are you feeling?”

“Sadness. Disappointment.”

“What’s under that?”

“I feel small, hurt, unworthy.”

“And what’s under that?”

“I feel like I deserve what I’m getting. I’m small, so I’m feeling small.”

“Yes. What’s under that?”

“I never felt like I was enough for my parents. They made me feel like I wasn’t trying hard enough.”

“What’s under that?”

“I’m angry. They shouldn’t have judged me. They should have loved me simply and completely.”

“And what’s under that?”

“It makes me sad to remember how I felt when I was young and powerless. I guess I still feel small.”

“What’s under that?”

“Compassion. My parents did the best they could. I forgive them.”

“And what’s under that?”

“Peace. I feel better. I love myself.”

“And what’s under that?”

“Love. Light. Beauty. God.”

“How’s that feel?”

“Perfect…”

~Giving & Receiving~For Life!

There are just some days that renew ones faith in humankind.  They are days that are magical and serve to remind us of how the gifts we give and receive can impact our lives for the rest of our lives!  

In a recent conversation with a dear friend’s husband, Larry Green, my thoughts about giving and receiving were rocked to the core. As a clairvoyant I’m blessed to work with a lot of givers and healers. I have always found it interesting how many people can give yet have difficulty receiving.   In all things there must be balance so to give you must be able to receive and visa versa! You also must be able to “have” what you are given.

I’m not going to tell Larry’s story, I’ll let him do that and link it here when it’s done, but I will tell you about our conversation and a bit of background. Larry was in end stage renal failure and had to have dialysis 3 times a week while waiting for a kidney. Our conversation took place only a few days before he was to receive a kidney transplant from an altruistic donor. Larry is not related to the angel woman who was donating and in fact only met her because of her self-less decision to give him one of her kidneys.  A true gift of life for sure!

As Larry was telling me his story and how he found his donor I was struck by the enormity of it. This woman was willing to go into surgery and give a complete stranger one of her kidneys! Seriously, that brings the meaning of giving to a whole new level! She could literally save a life by giving from her body consciously, without reservation and no strings attached. Nothing expected in return. I don’t know about you but I really don’t think I could do something like that for someone I’ve never met. This woman truly is an angel who walks the earth!

I voiced my complete admiration for this woman to Larry and as if my heart wasn’t full enough from hearing about her, Larry went on to tell me his feelings about it. This woman quite literally was giving him a new life! I could hear the depth of emotion in his voice as he not only told me how grateful he is but that he felt a great deal of responsibility to honor and care for his gift.  He told me that now he not only must care for himself and his body but that he is also caring for another person whose gift and energy now lives inside of him.  This takes receiving and caring for one’s body to a whole new level!

There are few gifts in this world that are greater than the gift of life. I know from personal experience about the gift of life. My Dad had a heart transplant 20+ years ago. Although he passed in 2001 the heart that he received gave him (and US) 10  years he otherwise would not have had. 

I urge you to look into and consider the gift of organ donation.  Registering gives those who are waiting for transplants hope. For more information and/or to register in your state: U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services For information on altruistic donation visit Living Kidney Donor Network.

You don’t need to be an altruistic donor or to have received a transplant to know how important it is to appreciate and care for the gifts you receive; Or how giving cleanly can bring you the greatest joy of knowing you gave new life to another but maybe by reading this your perspective will shift and you’ll have a change of  heart! :-) ~Shine Your Light Debbie

There is a purpose and meaning to everything in life.. Loving yourself and letting go is actually a very self-less act! We heal others through random acts of kindness, through our compassion, forgiveness and standing up for those who don’t have a voice. Letting go when it comes to our closest and most intimate relationships is the most difficult yet it is a powerful self-less act of giving to others and loving yourself!

Let’s face it, letting go is hard sometimes! One of the reasons is because there is almost always some sort of resistance in play or what you want to let go of would just go gracefully and without struggle. What if the healing your most intimate relationship, the one with yourself, is really about the letting go of resistance? What if letting go was the most gracious and self-less act of giving? What if it was the most loving way of healing not only yourself but someone else?

Letting go and releasing energy IS the ultimate in terms of self- love AND a self-less act of kindness that affects both you and those around you! It is the greatest way to respect yourself and a gift that respects that you (and/or someone else) are exactly where you should be at this time under whatever circumstances are going on. Holding on to energy among other things is about ‘lack’ and means you don’t trust yourself to be able to create something new.

The release of hopes, dreams and good times are just as important as letting go of pain. It frees you and expands the space for you to create more hopes, dreams and good times, not to mention it also puts the vibration of those things into the universe so they can come back to you effortlessly!  Much of what we hold on to is steeped in fear of the unknown. What will life be like if we let go of this or that? Letting go is a gift of FREEDOM.

This is not just about intimate relationships. You are always relating in some way to everything. Consider that setting “someone” or “something”free allows you more space and freedom. If you’re holding on to the energy of someone else, or someone else’s problems and your focus is on the shadow and not the light,  it affects your relationship with yourself as well as ALL your relationships!

Set yourself free and put your feet upon a path of self-love by letting go! The light is streaming in for you to fill up with if you choose to let it in! Whatever you hold on to, let it go!
