For Happiness, Peace & Ease, SURRENDER!

“Life is the dancer, and you are the dance”~Eckhart Tolle

Many people struggle and fight their whole lives to find happiness, peace and ease. It doesn’t really matter what the fight is but it translates into a feeling of constantly being at war. There is effort at every turn and let’s be frank here, if you are looking for the negative side, it’s always there. For every positive there is a negative and you have the choice to sound the alarm, arm yourself and go into battle or you can SURRENDER.

Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up and losing nor does it make you a victim of your circumstances. Surrendering means putting down your weapons, letting go of ego, giving up the fight and accepting that which IS. Accepting that which IS in present time takes your energy out of the battle and frees you. It brings a sense of happiness, peace and ease which only comes from bringing all that you are back to you and accepting there is something going on which you cannot control. To be sure there will always be something you can go into battle for but when you surrender and let go of the fight itself you have actually just won the battle!

Are you in a constant battle in your life? Do you feel like you always have to ‘fight’ to get what you want? Are you struggling on a money quest, to find love or to lose weight? Are you fighting your body or resisting illness? Is there peace and ease in your relationships (including the one with yourself) or do you find yourself in effort and either ‘people pleasing’ or trying to live up to someone else’s vision of who you are? Are you in a battle with an addiction to sex, love, drugs, alcohol or some other type of obsession?

Whatever you are fighting and/or anytime you find yourself struggling the more you fight it, the less chance you have of winning the fight. I want to make it very clear here that I’m not referring to those who have an illness and are doing everything possible to fight for their lives. That is a very different kind of fight. Most of the people in that situation have accepted what is happening and take the necessary steps to heal their body and spirit. I’m also not referring to the things we must fight for globally like human rights, truth and justice. We all must take a stand and fight for those things. I’m referring to the  battles which exist in your mind that imprison you. The internal dialogues and battles which take root and cause you to constantly feel like your fighting to become visible and valuable in the outer world.

Not one thing said here has anything to do with giving up. It’s just the opposite. Happiness, peace and ease comes from being one with your life in the present moment. Being one with your life is accepting what IS then doing something about it. If you are at war fighting your circumstances you’ll have very little energy left for anything else. Your circumstance (or growth period) is not who you are. You don’t live your life, life lives through you and your choices. It is when you give up trying to fight and control every little thing that comes up that you will feel a sense of ease.

Surrender to who you are and the feelings in your heart. Throw in the towel. Raise the white flag. Imagine how life will be when you win; And you do win the very second you decide to let go and surrender. Imagine a life full of happiness, peace and ease. Are you ready to step on to the dance floor, full of joy and BE the dance?~Shine Your Light Debbie

On the road to success do you get in your own way? (Part 1)

It goes without saying that we all want to be successful. We dream big, imagine what life would be like and sometimes we even start building a foundation for success yet for some reason there are times we become stuck or blocked on the way. The people who we perceive as successful were not without challenges and pitfalls; they persevered, climbed out of the pit and turned stumbling blocks into stepping-stones. How did they do it you might ask. The answer to that question is simple. They got out of their own way by focusing on success instead of the energies which come up time and time again as they moved closer to their goal.

Of course there are many reasons why you get close to success and movement seems to abruptly stop just short of your goal. This is precisely the time to take time in meditation to see what’s happening. I’ve listed here the top four energies which I continually see come up during reading sessions and workshops. It’s interesting to note how easily it these 4 energies take over. If you don’t take time to acknowledge and clear them out it is YOU who get in the way of your own success.

Fear of Success

In a recent workshop on creating one of the students left trembling and in tears.  I spoke with her a few days later and asked about her experience. She told me that in the workshop she created something so BIG that she became overwhelmed with what she had just put into motion and it frightened her to the very core. The truth of what happened was that all the energies about how much her life would change, what she would have to let go of and who she might have to leave behind in the process came up. At any point on your road to success pictures and energies will get stimulated and you can move through them and let them go or you can hold on tightly. Worrying about ‘what’s next’ is also a fear which should be addressed. Once you’ve put into motion your success it’s in motion! If you allow the fear to control the outcome, you’ve gotten in your own way. Let go of the fear and allow success to unfold before your very eyes!

Limiting Beliefs

Is there a limit to how successful you can be? Did someone once tell you that for some reason you weren’t good enough or smart enough to be truly successful? Were you programmed to believe your life should unfold in a certain order or what your particular role should be  Did you identify with what they told you and at some point it became your truth? I see this a lot when I read women. They are in a struggle to meet the programming of being a wife and mother vs. a successful business woman following their dreams. In a sense they are limiting their experience to one or the other. There are many people, not just women, who hold on to the belief that life is supposed to be a certain way. If you believe what others have told you about what your role should be or you put limits on your success you are getting in your own way. Turn your attention within and discover what makes you tick, what YOU believe about yourself and know that you indeed can succeed no matter what. Find those things YOU are enthusiastic about creating in your life. Your idea of success might very well be completely different from someone else’s. Welcome support from others, ‘divorce’ the naysayers in your life and in the words of a dear friend ‘believe you can achieve’ and you will! Read More

I have split this post into Part 1 & Part 2 to go into more detail . Part 2 is about raising your havingness, clearing resistance and measuring success. CLICK HERE for Part 2.~Shine Your Light Debbie

On the road to success do you get in your own way? (Part 2)

This is Part 2 of “On the road to success do you get in your own way.” CLICK HERE for Part 1.

No matter where you are on your road to success there will always be something that comes up. This is what growth and expansion is all about. You do not need to allow the energies or pictures which inevitably surface to stop you. It is the steps you take when these energies get stimulated that makes the difference between staying stuck and moving forward again. Getting out of your own way is about taking back your power and creativity from those places you’ve given up space to in the past.

Raise your havingness!

Havingness is about how much can you have. It may be that although you dream it and wish it your ‘havingness quotient’ doesn’t allow you to have your success. One can see what I’m talking about clearly if you take a look at how many lottery winners end up broke after a few years. While one could argue that they made poor decisions it is more about how much they could have and felt they deserved. On the other side of the equation you see people who came from humble beginnings become VERY successful. They stopped identifying with their past and found value in what they could bring to the table. Chris Gardner, portrayed by Will Smith in the movie Pursuit of Happiness, struggled financially and then was homeless before he took charge of his life. By raising his havingness he created (and attracted) opportunities. If he didn’t recognize and connect with his intrinsic value and continued to identify himself as a hopeless, homeless man he would not be where he is today. Raising your havingness can be as simple as connecting with your value and that you deserve all you are receiving. Have gratitude and give thanks every step of the way.

Resisting the process

Every journey to success is a process. There is no way around it. Resisting the process not only makes the journey longer it can also cause it to be painful and frustrating. Until you clear the resistance to the process itself, whether it is yours or anothers, you will remain exactly where you are. In spirit there is no time or space. What you create, dream and imagine is already out there waiting for you to clear enough space (and raise your havingness) for it to come in. In the physical realm things take time. Get out of your own way by clearing resistance. There is plenty of resistance and competition in the world today. Step out of it. Take time each day to find peace and neutrality within. Allow everything that comes up or at you to gently fall away.

Measuring Success

Each of us has a different measure of success. For some it is money, for others it is fame. Some measure success by number of pounds lost on the scale while others by what they see in the mirror. Some measure success by their number of Facebook friends or Twitter followers and others by the quality of people in their life. However you measure your success be sure to be specific and include more than one thing. In fact take a moment now to think of at least 3 things that will clearly let you know you’ve arrived at a particular destination. Make one your real goal and the other two from other areas of your life. Picture yourself basking in the glow of success and measure it to YOU not someone else.

Every journey has its pitfalls and challenges but with strength of spirit and perseverance you can succeed. Success comes in CANS so don’t believe anyone who tells you, you can’t. No one is immune to challenges and is happy and successful all the time. Not everyone will embrace your success or support you on the way. It might feel like an uphill battle at times but in the end it is all worth the journey. There are plenty of energies and naysayers that get in the way so don’t YOU be one of them!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Life is a Verb

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines life as a noun. It goes on to say it is ”a:the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body  b: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings.” If there is a “quality” that distinguishes us from being “dead” that quality lies in choosing to live life as a verb.

The meaning of life is only truly defined by what is important to each of us as individuals. There is not one ‘singular’ definition. Life is what we breathe into it. It can be dormant and bland or full of sparkle and excitement. It can be merely existing and responding or full of vitality and passion. We can let life pass us by unconscious to the possibilities that present themselves each day or we can live with conscious awareness knowing that there is growth, change and endless possibilities. Life is what you want it to be and you can live it as a noun or a VERB.

Breathe life into your life!

Engaging in life is what breaths life into it. Bring your passion and purpose to the forefront and create from that vibration. Seeing what you are passionate about come to life by creating it moves you beyond your fears and fills your heart with new purpose. Think about those things you’ve created in the past which left you feeling fulfilled. If you created something amazing in the past, trust in your ability to do it again. You know in your heart what breathes life into your life. Follow your heart and it will lead you to places unimaginable because what you decide to bring into being today opens doors to other opportunities.

BEing is not passive!

Engaging in life means engaging with yourself first. The state of being-ness is not merely sitting in a chair void of life and thought. In fact it’s just the opposite. It is a time of discovery, consciousness and healing. It is a time for facing your perceived fears, moving past them and feeling what YOU are feeling. It is a time to bring your spirit to life and listen to your inner self. It is a time for more of who you are as divine being to come in allowing body and spirit to live and work together. Can you envision what could be created when your body and spirit are in harmony? Imagine if you will what it would be like if you looked inside yourself to find answers as much as you look for them outside. All your answers lie within you and all it takes are a few quiet moments to listen.

Breathe new life into your life! Decide now, in this very moment to live life as a verb. Engage in life by turning your attention within and listening to your inner guidance. Shed the layers of responsiblity heaped on you by others which you have carried with you for years. Move past your fears and connect with your vitality and purpose. Live with the excitement and joy brought forth by breathing life into your life! Life is a verb…engage!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Reflections

Body Image: What Energy do you SEE?

“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all?” What do you see when you look in the mirror? Did you know that what is reflected back is not always what is truly and uniquely you? How’s your body image these days? Do you love or even like your body?

Everything is energy…

…including your body! When you look into the mirror do you see yourself looking back or are there times when the reflection you see doesn’t quite look like you? Are you always trying to fix or change something? Do you hate your body altogether? Do you think you are unattractive? Do you consider each wrinkle a ‘laugh or wisdom line’ or do you see it as merely getting old?

Enhancing or changing your body is fine but your outer body and the things you dislike many times are a reflection of what’s going on INside and it could very well be that there is a lot of energy you are carrying around which is not yours! It may not be that you hate your body but that you hate the energy you see when you look at yourself. This is an important distinction from wanting to get healthy and lose weight for example. If you don’t like the extra weight, take a few moments to reflect on those things you carry around with you or the pain you are trying to cover up. If you are thin  yet see yourself as heavy reflect on what it is you are still trying to purge from your body.

Change what’s INside first…

There’s nothing wrong with body enhancements but unless you change what’s going on INside nothing you do (whether it be losing or gaining weight, plastic surgery etc) will change how you see and feel about yourself. What is it you don’t want to see? Is it a painful childhood? Are you in pain and/or resisting an illness? Is there energy that stems from constant invalidation? And for the million dollar question….HOW MUCH OF WHAT YOU SEE IS ACTUALLY YOURS? Refelctions of any kind are distorted! Have you ever gone to an amusement park and looked at yourself in one of those funny mirrors? :-)

There is more to you than meets the eye!

Your spirit is beautiful! No matter what your physical body looks like, finding and bringing more of you INside will indeed be reflected on the outside. Your body is not just made up of molecules and particles. Your spiritual energy animates and breathes passion and purpose into your life. If you are comparing yourself to what is considered ‘beautiful’ by some and you don’t feel like you fit that image, you are actually getting stuck on someone else’s (or society’s) picture of beauty!

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER!

How you see yourself from your minds eye is reflected on the outside. Behold the beauty of yourself! The more of YOU and your beautiful spirit you allow yourself to see and bring INside the more you show it to others. When you look in the mirror if the outside doesn’t quite match the inside, go ahead and do what you’d like to change your physical body; But by all means be sure to clear out foreign energies and other people’s pictures or concepts of beauty. See yourself as I see you…a beautiful spirit in a human body!~Shine Your Light Debbie

healing

Healing those who don’t want it….

Healing others is a natural ability and something you may have done your whole life. Perhaps you have recently found a technique that not only helps you heal yourself but others as well. VOILA! you’ve found THE answer you’ve been looking for!

You can heal yourself AND someone else! You feel great and want to share what you’ve learned and shed light wherever and whenever because it feels good to help and you CAN! You can’t even imagine why someone wouldn’t want to heal. After all it’s simple, easy and you definitely have the ability to help. Of course, why wouldn’t you want to share and heal those closest to you?

So there you are, shining your light and healing yourself. A friend comes along and is sad, working through a problem, is depressed, sick or even merrily on their way but you can see, sense and feel something’s not right. You are so enthusiastic about healing, that you jump in with both feet. You’re going to help them! It could be an energy healing, reading or just sending out all the light and love you can. Whatever you use you’re going to make them feel better using your healing ability!

This is very noble…it’s also called being a friend :-) However, before you jumped in, did you ask if them if they wanted the healing? Did you “read” them without permission? I can tell you from personal experience that when you are a healer and do what comes naturally to you it may not always be welcome. When you ‘come to the rescue’  particularly in matters of the heart, without permission you can get punished on an energetic level. The person will go into resistance, put a wall up and run for the hills.

A very dear friend of mine wrote me the perfect metaphor for describing what happens. If you are an out of control healer like I can sometimes be, I think you’ll find a great deal of information in what he wrote! :-)

“You know how if you’re in a dark place, and someone turns on a light when they’re not expecting or wanting it, and they feel blinded? And they need the light turned off NOW because their eyes haven’t adjusted yet? Well I think there’s an analogy to be made when it comes to matters of the heart.  Sometimes you need to give people time for their hearts to adjust. Sometimes it’s better to knock on the door and open it sloooowwwwly, letting little bits of light in at a time. You may know they’re better off with lots of light, but that’s not always the point. They might need time to acclimate.  And you might need to ask why they were in the dark. That might give you lots of information about how to give them light.”~SBS (reprinted with permission)

Each person knows whats best for their own healing and heals in their own time.  In fact, as pointed out to me, you can get so attached to the outcome of the healing that you forget there is a very sensitive human being going through something that may be very painful to shed light on all at once.

Shine your light from within and heal yourself. Allow others to come to you to bathe in your light when THEY are ready.  Be a good friend and not only listen, but hear what someone is telling you. They may have a very good reason they want and need to go slooooowwwwly. :-)  ~Shine your light~ Debbie

Peace

Choose LOVE; It only takes a moment…

“There is no Love greater than Love with no object. For then you, yourself, have become love itself.”~Rumi

The holidays are upon us and it is a sure bet that you are busy. You get wrapped up in your life much like gifts which are wrapped to go under a tree. The hustle and bustle of the holidays is also one of the most stressful times of the year. The thing about a wrapped present is that you can’t see what’s inside until you unwrap it. What looks pretty on the outside could very well be hurting on the inside or the really ugly, poorly wrapped present could very well be beautiful on the inside.

During this season keep in mind that many are hurting. They might lash out, be rude or even ignore you but it’s not because of you. They are wrapped up and maybe even trying to cover up their own pain. Whether it is emotional or physical, you might not be able to see it with your eyes so it is difficult to understand why someone acts or responds in a way you don’t think is proper. While in your own busy world this year why not share the spirit of the holidays by taking a moment to respond with love?!

Whether white, black, red, yellow, tall or short, gay, straight, bi, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist (or another religion), married, single, spiritual or not, Democrat, Republican or Independent whatever your beliefs or convictions are there are things which are true for all of us; We are all human beings and we all bleed red. We all have feelings and experience challenges and pain in our lives. Put aside your judgements or better yet, clear the energy of judgement altogether and spread a little joy and peace in the world!

It only takes a moment…

It only takes a moment of your valuable time to pick up the phone and call a friend or family member you haven’t seen or spoken to in a while. It only takes a moment of your time to smile at the homeless person you pass on the street. It only takes a moment to respond with love instead of hate. It only takes a moment to share a smile and say hello to connect with spirit. If someone has in your eyes ‘wronged’ you, it only takes a moment to forgive.

It only takes a moment to respond with love and compassion instead of resistance and anger. The choices you make, words you use and energy you put out at any given moment leave a lasting impression whether you realize it or not. You never really know another’s journey or what they are going through. How you respond can change someones day for the better and it only takes a moment to do it!

Peace on earth, goodwill toward humans is not just a holiday saying. Choosing to “become love itself” only takes a moment. Choosing to acknowledge another human spirit brings heaven to earth. Connect with your own spirit and decide what energy you’d like to generate in this world. It only takes a moment to shine your light which in turn allows others to do the same. This holiday season make moments which take your breath away. Choose love…it only takes a moment. ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Connect with Spirit and Breathe Life into your Life!

BREATHE! Inhale freely, exhale freely. Can you feel it? There is LIFE in your breath. There is life-sustaining energy in your breath yet for the most part, you don’t think about breathing; You just do it. While there are beautiful moments which ‘take your breath away’ in the metaphorical sense, there are times when we need a reminder to allow our breath to fuel us with passion and breathe new life into our lives. Connecting with your spirit to remember what’s important also breathes life into your life!

In the world today there are many challenges to face. Some are bigger than others and at some point each of us arrives at a crossroads which can feel overwhelming if we are not connected with our passion, essence and spirit. When you become engrossed in problems, constant worry, lament about the past or become fearful of what the future might bring, you become disconnected from your physical body and your inner light. Anything which takes your attention outside of you can cause this disconnect.

I recently taught a workshop on past lives and karma. My goal for the workshop was to teach people how to ground and re-connect to their infinite spirit as a way to explore who they are now. Becoming aware of how much more you have experienced through other lifetimes can showcase your spirit to you in a powerful way. I honestly didn’t realize the true impact of this workshop until I began receiving emails from those who attended. I’m sharing what Michael wrote (with his permission of course :-) ) not as a pat on the back to me but because it’s a true testament to the power of how connecting with your spirit can heal. It is also precisely why I do readings, teach workshops and write this blog.

I want to thank you for that last meditation workshop. It was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had in a long time and has helped me to remember how important spirituality was in my life and how I’ve put it aside for so long. Especially now with so much of my future unclear, exploring what made me feel in touch with life and what was/is so important to me is really what I’ve needed. So thank you. ~Michael

Michael thank YOU for reminding me why I do what I do! You did the work. I merely taught you a few meditation tools and guided you through it :-)   There are few things more fulfilling than watching as someone re-connects and begins to realize how much more they are than their circumstances. Perhaps what Michael expressed in how he was feeling before the workshop resonates with you?

YOU are so much more than your present circumstances!

Your spirit has lifetimes of information. When you tap into that information, you indeed awaken to the fact that all your answers lie within. The first step to connecting to your spirit is to breathe! Simply focusing on your breath brings your attention back to YOU. It is in the space of quieting your mind and calming the body when you start the process of re-connecting.

Breath in freely and get in touch with life! Breath in freely and remember what’s important! Exhale away your problems, challenges and pain! Re-connect and get reacquainted with the infinite being that you are and breathe life and energy into your life! Breath in freely, exhale freely and by all means while your at it, take a moment to smell the flowers! :-) ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Growth & Expansion: Is it a NEW you or more YOU?

In a conversation with a very wise friend I mentioned that I’m a completely different person today than I was, say, 10 years ago. I see and experience the world differently, spend time daily in meditation, write this blog and do a myriad of other things which frankly I never in a million years thought I’d be doing.

Yes, I was truly confident that I’ve completely changed and in many ways that is really true. How interesting that his response to my statement was ‘no, you haven’t changed. you’ve grown and expanded’. The comment sent me into a bit of a tailspin. He was absolutely right! With all the changes I’ve made, as well as the inner work of self-healing, the core of who I am hasn’t changed! In fact, I’m more ME then ever before!

Yes, there have been monumental changes in my life. My perspective has shifted, I have cleared out toxic relationships, lost weight and stopped living from other people’s picture of who they think I am. So I (with a capital I) haven’t changed. My life has changed because I’ve created change through healing, growth and expansion as spirit! Like peeling back the layers of an onion, layer by layer I uncovered ME.

Living up to someone else’s expectations doesn’t work. If it doesn’t come from your heart it comes across as inauthentic. Living to validate and heal others so they validate you doesn’t work. Those people will merely ‘take’ all you have to give and then eclipse out of your life! Living your life constantly trying to be the person you think someone else wants you to be doesn’t work. Who you think they want you to be is more than likely a picture steeped in invalidation that says who YOU are and what you bring to the table isn’t good enough.

If you’ve ever asked why someone can’t see you for who you really are then it’s time to peel back some layers. They certainly can’t see you for who you are if the YOU, you’d like them to see is buried under layers of other stuff. There can only be one YOU and ultimately you can’t keep up trying to be someone you are not. It is exhausting, frustrating and it will never get you where you want to go.

In essence, you can change your thoughts and actions. You can alter your life’s path. You can learn to love yourself. You can heal your spirit, uncovering the true you. You can grow and expand your confidence and have the courage to show yourself to the world. The cathartic events  that ‘forever’ change you are learning experiences which allow for growth and expansion. You can create and BE the change you wish to see but that comes from strength within. The strength that is already there!

Take a journey within and look at yourself! Find the pearl that was created from those challenging experiences! Get in alignment with your passion and what you’d like to create. Bring more of YOU in and allow everything else to fall away. Find your ‘happy place’ inside and allow it to grow and expand! When you do this your life will truly be changed forever because your true spiritual essence shines through!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Choose to see yourself as I see you….

….and see the magnificent spirit that you are! If you choose to see yourself as I see you, you will see your purpose for being on this planet at this particular time and how many lives you’ve touched along the way. As spirit you are a perfect being so why see yourself as anything less?

This is not about ego, thinking you are better than someone else or about exerting your power over another. It is not that you don’t have anything to learn or that you will never have challenging experiences which often leave you asking why this or that happened or is happening in your life. It is about seeing the light that is the very core of your being and accepting that others may or may not choose to see it for themselves.

There are some on this planet who only see and feel pain or become detached from themselves and others. Others numb the pain and find comfort with alcohol, drugs or food. They hide behind their addictions wearing them like a suit of armour blaming everyone else or giving over their power to the pain. It is a choice to allow pain and addiction to take over ones life. It’s not easy to break the cycle but it IS a choice to seek other ways to deal with pain and bring comfort to oneself.

Many give away their beautiful energy to others looking for validation. You don’t have to give away your energy to heal someone else! In fact at some point if you are doing this, the person you are healing will exit your life because your energy does not belong in that person’s space and there is always an exchange. You give them your energy and take on their pain. When they look at you, all they can see is the pain you’ve taken on.

There is strength in seeing spirit and how you choose to see yourself is a choice you make each day. Choosing to see yourself as the radiant being that you are is not always easy because the choice of awakening means seeing, accepting and letting go of the pain and choices you’ve made in the past. When a light shines into the darkness it illuminates what is there and it may indeed highlight painful moments. However, light also brings truth and eventually transforms darkness into a new dawn.

I see you as a truly unique being. A creator of your life. A bright light shining like the stars in the sky. I see you in your radiance and that you have the ability to choose to live from your magnificence. I see you as having purpose on this planet. I see you as a being of light and love. I see you as a child of God with grace and goodness in your heart.

With all that said, it really doesn’t matter how I see you. What matters is how and what  YOU choose to see for yourself. Awaken to and see your brilliance! Allow it to burst forth from the inside out! Remember the Ugly Duckling story about the homely little bird who suffers abuse from his neighbors until, he matures into a beautiful swan?  You have the ability and the choice to see your inner swan! What you see is what you get!~Shine Your Light Debbie
