Peace

Choose LOVE; It only takes a moment…

“There is no Love greater than Love with no object. For then you, yourself, have become love itself.”~Rumi

The holidays are upon us and it is a sure bet that you are busy. You get wrapped up in your life much like gifts which are wrapped to go under a tree. The hustle and bustle of the holidays is also one of the most stressful times of the year. The thing about a wrapped present is that you can’t see what’s inside until you unwrap it. What looks pretty on the outside could very well be hurting on the inside or the really ugly, poorly wrapped present could very well be beautiful on the inside.

During this season keep in mind that many are hurting. They might lash out, be rude or even ignore you but it’s not because of you. They are wrapped up and maybe even trying to cover up their own pain. Whether it is emotional or physical, you might not be able to see it with your eyes so it is difficult to understand why someone acts or responds in a way you don’t think is proper. While in your own busy world this year why not share the spirit of the holidays by taking a moment to respond with love?!

Whether white, black, red, yellow, tall or short, gay, straight, bi, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist (or another religion), married, single, spiritual or not, Democrat, Republican or Independent whatever your beliefs or convictions are there are things which are true for all of us; We are all human beings and we all bleed red. We all have feelings and experience challenges and pain in our lives. Put aside your judgements or better yet, clear the energy of judgement altogether and spread a little joy and peace in the world!

It only takes a moment…

It only takes a moment of your valuable time to pick up the phone and call a friend or family member you haven’t seen or spoken to in a while. It only takes a moment of your time to smile at the homeless person you pass on the street. It only takes a moment to respond with love instead of hate. It only takes a moment to share a smile and say hello to connect with spirit. If someone has in your eyes ‘wronged’ you, it only takes a moment to forgive.

It only takes a moment to respond with love and compassion instead of resistance and anger. The choices you make, words you use and energy you put out at any given moment leave a lasting impression whether you realize it or not. You never really know another’s journey or what they are going through. How you respond can change someones day for the better and it only takes a moment to do it!

Peace on earth, goodwill toward humans is not just a holiday saying. Choosing to “become love itself” only takes a moment. Choosing to acknowledge another human spirit brings heaven to earth. Connect with your own spirit and decide what energy you’d like to generate in this world. It only takes a moment to shine your light which in turn allows others to do the same. This holiday season make moments which take your breath away. Choose love…it only takes a moment. ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Connect with Spirit and Breathe Life into your Life!

BREATHE! Inhale freely, exhale freely. Can you feel it? There is LIFE in your breath. There is life-sustaining energy in your breath yet for the most part, you don’t think about breathing; You just do it. While there are beautiful moments which ‘take your breath away’ in the metaphorical sense, there are times when we need a reminder to allow our breath to fuel us with passion and breathe new life into our lives. Connecting with your spirit to remember what’s important also breathes life into your life!

In the world today there are many challenges to face. Some are bigger than others and at some point each of us arrives at a crossroads which can feel overwhelming if we are not connected with our passion, essence and spirit. When you become engrossed in problems, constant worry, lament about the past or become fearful of what the future might bring, you become disconnected from your physical body and your inner light. Anything which takes your attention outside of you can cause this disconnect.

I recently taught a workshop on past lives and karma. My goal for the workshop was to teach people how to ground and re-connect to their infinite spirit as a way to explore who they are now. Becoming aware of how much more you have experienced through other lifetimes can showcase your spirit to you in a powerful way. I honestly didn’t realize the true impact of this workshop until I began receiving emails from those who attended. I’m sharing what Michael wrote (with his permission of course :-) ) not as a pat on the back to me but because it’s a true testament to the power of how connecting with your spirit can heal. It is also precisely why I do readings, teach workshops and write this blog.

I want to thank you for that last meditation workshop. It was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had in a long time and has helped me to remember how important spirituality was in my life and how I’ve put it aside for so long. Especially now with so much of my future unclear, exploring what made me feel in touch with life and what was/is so important to me is really what I’ve needed. So thank you. ~Michael

Michael thank YOU for reminding me why I do what I do! You did the work. I merely taught you a few meditation tools and guided you through it :-)   There are few things more fulfilling than watching as someone re-connects and begins to realize how much more they are than their circumstances. Perhaps what Michael expressed in how he was feeling before the workshop resonates with you?

YOU are so much more than your present circumstances!

Your spirit has lifetimes of information. When you tap into that information, you indeed awaken to the fact that all your answers lie within. The first step to connecting to your spirit is to breathe! Simply focusing on your breath brings your attention back to YOU. It is in the space of quieting your mind and calming the body when you start the process of re-connecting.

Breath in freely and get in touch with life! Breath in freely and remember what’s important! Exhale away your problems, challenges and pain! Re-connect and get reacquainted with the infinite being that you are and breathe life and energy into your life! Breath in freely, exhale freely and by all means while your at it, take a moment to smell the flowers! :-) ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Growth & Expansion: Is it a NEW you or more YOU?

In a conversation with a very wise friend I mentioned that I’m a completely different person today than I was, say, 10 years ago. I see and experience the world differently, spend time daily in meditation, write this blog and do a myriad of other things which frankly I never in a million years thought I’d be doing.

Yes, I was truly confident that I’ve completely changed and in many ways that is really true. How interesting that his response to my statement was ‘no, you haven’t changed. you’ve grown and expanded’. The comment sent me into a bit of a tailspin. He was absolutely right! With all the changes I’ve made, as well as the inner work of self-healing, the core of who I am hasn’t changed! In fact, I’m more ME then ever before!

Yes, there have been monumental changes in my life. My perspective has shifted, I have cleared out toxic relationships, lost weight and stopped living from other people’s picture of who they think I am. So I (with a capital I) haven’t changed. My life has changed because I’ve created change through healing, growth and expansion as spirit! Like peeling back the layers of an onion, layer by layer I uncovered ME.

Living up to someone else’s expectations doesn’t work. If it doesn’t come from your heart it comes across as inauthentic. Living to validate and heal others so they validate you doesn’t work. Those people will merely ‘take’ all you have to give and then eclipse out of your life! Living your life constantly trying to be the person you think someone else wants you to be doesn’t work. Who you think they want you to be is more than likely a picture steeped in invalidation that says who YOU are and what you bring to the table isn’t good enough.

If you’ve ever asked why someone can’t see you for who you really are then it’s time to peel back some layers. They certainly can’t see you for who you are if the YOU, you’d like them to see is buried under layers of other stuff. There can only be one YOU and ultimately you can’t keep up trying to be someone you are not. It is exhausting, frustrating and it will never get you where you want to go.

In essence, you can change your thoughts and actions. You can alter your life’s path. You can learn to love yourself. You can heal your spirit, uncovering the true you. You can grow and expand your confidence and have the courage to show yourself to the world. The cathartic events  that ‘forever’ change you are learning experiences which allow for growth and expansion. You can create and BE the change you wish to see but that comes from strength within. The strength that is already there!

Take a journey within and look at yourself! Find the pearl that was created from those challenging experiences! Get in alignment with your passion and what you’d like to create. Bring more of YOU in and allow everything else to fall away. Find your ‘happy place’ inside and allow it to grow and expand! When you do this your life will truly be changed forever because your true spiritual essence shines through!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Choose to see yourself as I see you….

….and see the magnificent spirit that you are! If you choose to see yourself as I see you, you will see your purpose for being on this planet at this particular time and how many lives you’ve touched along the way. As spirit you are a perfect being so why see yourself as anything less?

This is not about ego, thinking you are better than someone else or about exerting your power over another. It is not that you don’t have anything to learn or that you will never have challenging experiences which often leave you asking why this or that happened or is happening in your life. It is about seeing the light that is the very core of your being and accepting that others may or may not choose to see it for themselves.

There are some on this planet who only see and feel pain or become detached from themselves and others. Others numb the pain and find comfort with alcohol, drugs or food. They hide behind their addictions wearing them like a suit of armour blaming everyone else or giving over their power to the pain. It is a choice to allow pain and addiction to take over ones life. It’s not easy to break the cycle but it IS a choice to seek other ways to deal with pain and bring comfort to oneself.

Many give away their beautiful energy to others looking for validation. You don’t have to give away your energy to heal someone else! In fact at some point if you are doing this, the person you are healing will exit your life because your energy does not belong in that person’s space and there is always an exchange. You give them your energy and take on their pain. When they look at you, all they can see is the pain you’ve taken on.

There is strength in seeing spirit and how you choose to see yourself is a choice you make each day. Choosing to see yourself as the radiant being that you are is not always easy because the choice of awakening means seeing, accepting and letting go of the pain and choices you’ve made in the past. When a light shines into the darkness it illuminates what is there and it may indeed highlight painful moments. However, light also brings truth and eventually transforms darkness into a new dawn.

I see you as a truly unique being. A creator of your life. A bright light shining like the stars in the sky. I see you in your radiance and that you have the ability to choose to live from your magnificence. I see you as having purpose on this planet. I see you as a being of light and love. I see you as a child of God with grace and goodness in your heart.

With all that said, it really doesn’t matter how I see you. What matters is how and what  YOU choose to see for yourself. Awaken to and see your brilliance! Allow it to burst forth from the inside out! Remember the Ugly Duckling story about the homely little bird who suffers abuse from his neighbors until, he matures into a beautiful swan?  You have the ability and the choice to see your inner swan! What you see is what you get!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Let Intuition Be Your Guide!

Intuition is that ‘gut feeling‘ you experience. It’s the feeling that for whatever reason you should go left instead of right, not to go on the vacation you’ve scheduled or give you the sense that something is or isn’t right. Listening and following your intuition can guide you to your hearts desire or keep you out of trouble!

Intuition is a psychic ability that everyone has. It is more commonplace to speak of than say mediumship or clairvoyance. In every day life you hear people who otherwise don’t ‘believe’ in the psychic ‘who ha’ say something to the effect of ‘I just felt like something was wrong’, ‘it felt like the right thing to do’, or ‘I went with my gut on it’. Paying attention to what your intuition is telling you increases your awareness of what’s going on around you.  Like exercising a muscle, the more you use and follow it, the more it works for you.

Are you listening?

Consider your intuition as direct communication with yourself. You KNOW what feels right or wrong in a particular situation. You KNOW when you get that nagging feeling that it’s time to pay attention even if you don’t necessarily know what’s about to happen. If you get ‘red flags’ about something or someone your intuition is telling you something. Are you listening to it and letting it guide you?

“Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way.”~Florence Scovel Shinn

Using your intuition is indeed following what you sense whether you have the ‘facts’ or not. It is your ‘gut reaction’ that puts you on alert, calms your heart or allows you to change direction without having to know the exact outcome. You just have a sense it will all be good once you go with what you are feeling. It is not necessary to analyze it because most of the time what you feel and sense cannot be measured. Although it might not make any sense in that present moment, in time what your intuition tells you becomes real.

“I rely on my instincts and intuition, and I feel it’s so imperative for people to follow not THE path but THEIR path.”~Emma Stone

I recently read a book which talked about ‘your heart knowing’ before you do. I’ve not only seen this in action but experienced it myself. You might not be conscious of it but following your inner guidance system leads you to the truth in any situation. Think of a time when you didn’t follow your intuition. How did it turn out? Did you spend time afterwards saying to yourself ”I knew it!”

I can think of many instances in my life when my intuition was literally screaming at me and I didn’t listen. Now I listen and pay attention more closely to what it’s telling me. If nothing else, I become acutely aware of what is going on, make conscious decisions and don’t just go along with the program. :-)

The biggest challenge to following your intuition is trusting it and trusting yourself. This can take a bit of doing but it is very simply accomplished by following it over and over. Pretty soon you will trust your instincts, trust that you are on the right path, you’ll make that call at the right time or change direction just because ‘it feels right’. Go ahead, try it! You KNOW it will guide you!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Hurry Up and Wait!

“Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite. Or waiting around for Friday night or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil or a better break or a string of pearls or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or another chance. Everyone is just waiting.” ~Dr. Seuss

We wait ‘for our ship to come in’, to meet our soul mate, for things to calm down, for our children to grow up, for our yearly bonus, for the returned phone call or email, for the bus, or for someone else to make a decision so we can make ours. We wait for the economy to get better, or to find the better job or for our vacation days.  Funny thing about all this waiting is that we’re all in a hurry yet find ourselves waiting!

Waiting is an interesting concept to explore. In terms of your energy, it implies your energy is in the future or dependant on something (or someone) that’s outside of you before you can move forward. While you are waiting, for whatever reason, your energy, creativity and that part of your awareness is not  available to you in the present.  In fact, while you are waiting it is possible that your creativity stops altogether!

Take a moment to consider how much of your energy and creativity is caught up in waiting for something else to happen. It may only be in one area of your life you are waiting but it still takes away from how much energy you have to create in other areas as well. Becoming conscious of how much of your energy is not here and now in the present is great information because then you can call it back thus having MORE energy to create with! :-)

There is great value to having your energy and ability to create. Think of it in terms of having monetary value. How much of your money is out there that you don’t have access to in the present? Wouldn’t you like to use it now for something? Your energy and creativity are so valuable that there is no monetary comparison. YOU are PRICELESS! There is  no need to spend your time, attention and energy waiting when all creating happens in the present.

Having conscious awareness of those areas in your life where your energy is tied up and waiting allows you to shift where it is and bring it back to you. So… What are you waiting for? Call back your energy! No time like the present to get that juicy creativity flowing again!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Marriage Vows for Spirit & Body

Falling in love and getting married is a wonderful thing. When you meet that special someone, stars shine in your eyes, your thoughts become romantic dreams, everything looks beautiful and all seems right in the world. As your love grows with each passing moment, you may make the decision to get married and spend the rest of your life together. Marriage is the commitment that says you will be together ‘until death do you part.’

Although ceremonies and vows differ by culture, religion or custom, wedding vows are promises; Commitments to love, honor and cherish, in sickness and in health, through good times and bad, for richer or poorer etc. It doesn’t matter if you marry using customary vows, write your own or make an agreement under the stars on a remote beach with just the two of you. You are pledging and proclaiming your love and commitment to one another by agreement.

Marriage is a sacred space between two people both spiritually and physically.  A union that says you will journey together on the path of life. It’s interesting to note that most understand the concept of two people coming together in this way yet don’t consider the concept of body & spirit union and making those very same vows! OK I know, there should be a big ‘gotcha’ there :-)

Your spirit and body are already in union and ‘until death do you part’ is pretty much a given but what commitments have you made to your body?  Do you  respect, love, honor and cherish it? Has what was once a wonderful relationship become stale and abusive or did you never really love your body because you were too fat, or thin, or your nose is too big etc? Are you constantly invalidating, judging, ignoring or punishing your body and seeing only the imperfections? If you are not loving, cherishing and honoring your body you are in an abusive relationship!

Commit to loving your body and re-new your vows!

This might seem silly but you only have one body and it really is ‘until death do you part’! Like any good marriage it takes commitment to caring for and loving it each day. Eating healthy foods, listening to your body and giving it what it needs, getting enough rest, daily exercise and pampering yourself are certainly all part of a life long marriage.

It’s not that you have to like every single part of your body, but it’s important to have and accept the body that your spirit co-habitats with.  Think of it this way, would you continue to live with someone or even have them as a friend,  who treats you like you sometimes treat your body? As spirit, you made an agreement to be born into this particular body, at this particular time, to learn certain lessons…yes YOU chose your body before you were born and it’s up to you to care for it!

Pronounce and proclaim your marriage!

Look in the mirror and say the following words or write your own as they apply to you:

“I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and listen to you all the days of my life. I promise to have respect and honor you, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”

Enough said :-) ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Communication Nation~

The very first words spoken on the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell to his assistant in 1876 were “Mr. Watson, come here I need you.”  In 1928 my Grandfather, Maurice Bank, completed a design for the first two-way speaker system then invented and held the first patent for the intercom in 1933.  “Press a button and you’re there” was the ad. These things along with many others were invented to make communication easier and more efficient. Of course, we’ve come a long way since then. Now if you need someone or something, you simply send a text from your phone! Our world has truly become one big communication nation.

Although we have the ability to connect and communicate with people in ways we never thought possible this has also moved our attention and focus outside of ourselves. We have become a world nation of “first responders” instead of responding to ourselves first! Communication is easier but we are now more disconnected than ever. There are more filters in place and it is easy to misunderstand someone or be misunderstood. With so much of our time communicating through something else we have moved away from our most valuable connection; the connection that creates body/spirit communication.

When was the last time you said “Hello” to yourself and asked YOU how you are doing? The simple act of saying hello to yourself  opens a line of communication within. It starts a process of you discovering who you really are. When you  acknowledge yourself as spirit, you pave the way to give and receive a spirit to spirit hello from others! The best way I know to begin re-connecting is with meditation.

Meditation is a time for you to communicate with YOU.  It’s about re-booting, so to speak; separating from those other things shouting for your attention and discovering not only what your spirit wants you to know but what your body needs. It is a time to connect to and be in communication with the earth and the God of your heart. A time to connect with your body. A time to listen quietly for the messages you receive on a daily basis. How you communicate with others is directly related to how you communicate with yourself. Can you hear you?  Do you take time out of your day to find out how you are and what YOU need? If you ever have communication challenges with others, take a moment to look at how you are communicating with yourself.

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention but to be in communication with YOU there is nothing to invent! There are no filters, no waiting for response, nothing to buy, no misunderstandings. There is however, clarity, awareness and a sense of peace.  All that is necessary is for you to turn you attention within. Think of it this way; no one has ever said it’s dangerous to have clarity, awareness and a sense of peace while driving. :-) .~Shine Your Light Debbie

“I love you, no matter what!”

The following post was written and posted by a student on her GIN & TONIC blog after attending my LOVE: Let it Flow meditation workshop. I loved it so much that with her permission I’m re-posting her photos & personal thoughts about what she discovered. She took the pics while walking home after the workshop….the universe works in wonderful ways! Thank you Claire!!!

(I took the above picture walking home from the el today; it was part of hundreds of valentines strung along the fence at a local school. Thank you, anonymous student!)

“…and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should.”

I shared this quote a few days ago when I felt lost — when I couldn’t find the energy to tell you so in my own voice. Simple as that. I was having a difficult time believing that anything was unfolding, much less the Universe. I felt stopped up and stuck, kicking and screaming at the bottom of the proverbial winter doldrums barrel. Perhaps that sounds a bit melodramatic — but it wasn’t a great week.

Then I saw the Max Ehrmann quote, and it gave me pause. I knew something was unfolding, even if it was happening in the background and was not yet clear to me. And I had to have faith that given time, patience, intuition, and the love of the Universe, I’d be clued back in when the time was right.

As you may have guessed, the time was right today.

I went to a meditation workshop this afternoon at Yoga Now, lead by the bright and vibrant Debbie Taitel. It was, in keeping with the upcoming “holiday,” a meditation workshop about love. Was there chocolate to be passed around and chit chat about potential Monday evening plans? Of course. But the real focus of the afternoon was about love as an energy, love as a vibration, and the love that we have for ourselves. After all, if you don’t have authentic love for yourself, how do you give it out to anyone or anything else? Common sense, right?

Debbie asked us if we loved ourselves unconditionally. I was in the front row and didn’t look behind me, but I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who shook my head “no.” Which, truth be told, breaks my heart. (Oh em gee, no pun intended!) Do you love yourself unconditionally? Do we even know what that means? In various ways, I feel like I’ve said this all before. We compare, we measure, we “should” ourselves to death. We say, “I could’ve done better,” or “I hate it when I…” or “I’ll never be…” You can play that game all day long. But what about unconditionally loving our humanness?

I’m not saying that we should naively sail on through our lives, patting ourselves on the back and exclaiming our unrelenting fabulousness. That’s not love; I don’t even know what that is (maybe narcissistic personality disorder?)! What I am saying is to love our beings, to love this unfolding, even when it feels less than desirable (to put it mildly). As I was walking home from the workshop, I felt my mind begin to play its regular games; the self-doubt, the self-criticism. I was judging decisions I had made about the day, about my weekend, decisions that, when it comes down to it, hold very little bearing on the grand scheme of things. And right there, crossing the street, I thought to myself, “I love you, no matter what.”

I love you, no matter what.

But just because I said it once (or twice) doesn’t mean from here on out, I’m good to go. Building a true love for ourselves takes time, I think. And I know that I have a tendency to tie my blog posts up into nice little bows, but I don’t have a bow today. I do, however, have a different perspective of what I’m capable of. And isn’t that how change begins? The idea of loving myself and loving my process of “being” unconditionally is one of those propositions that makes my head hurt because I just can’t.completely.grasp.it. Kind of like astronomy, which I took twice (for fun, both times) and still do not understand. It’s just…out there. Literally! ;)

That being said, the Universe is unfolding as it should, in the same way that I am unfolding as I should (not “should”)…even when I have weeks that make me feel like I’m moving backwards rather than forwards. I am moving how I need to move. I would not have gone to that workshop today if I wasn’t ready, in some capacity, to strengthen the love that I have for myself and for my human experience.

So…I’m going to try.

Coming Out of the Clairvoyant Closet~

I wanted to share with you a wonderful experience I had yesterday. It really illustrates how truly being who you are is not only one of the best gifts you can give yourself but how validating and magical it is for others as well!

In addition to clairvoyant readings/healings and spiritual coaching work that I do (which includes writing this blog) I sell Real Estate. It’s very rewarding to use my abilities to help someone buy or sell a home. A home is where the heart is! It is YOUR space! Helping someone find a physical home is not too different from helping them find their spiritual space and I’m passionate about both.

Although I have always used my spiritual gifts in my Real Estate biz, I’ve more or less been in the closet about it. Up until very recently sharing what I do on an energetic/vibrational level was pretty much out of the question! Energy, intuition and healing was not acceptable in the business sector.

In order to make a living, I quietly gave healings to homes I had listed for sale, to clients and occasionally I helped other agents by clearing energies out of homes they had trouble selling. Every now and again I had a client or colleague who expressed interest in the metaphysical world. Only then I would share what I do with them.

That is until yesterday! Yesterday, I decided to blow the doors open, come out of the clairvoyant closet,  give 15 minute readings to my colleagues and actually do these reading sessions IN my real estate office!

In the most unlikely of places I was welcomed with open arms. Throughout the day I was fielding questions about readings, healings (both for homes and personal), and meditation. I also had the pleasure of hearing about what some of my colleagues were doing to clear the energy in properties!

Now there was a shocker! My colleagues, who do not consider themselves healers, intuitively knew that the energy in some homes did not feel comfortable so to clear it they were smudging with sage, sprinkling holy water and of course burying the upside down St Joseph statue in backyards. They did these things quietly and really didn’t speak of it.

In the process of reading 18 amazing people I watched profound healing taking place. I shared messages from loved ones who passed, and spiritual gifts were validated.  SPIRIT was validated and more importantly, what was once whispered and unacceptable in the business world, at once became more acceptable.

This IS the shift in process.  The more we validate our own spirit and share what we are doing with others, the more others have permission to validate what they instinctively know and feel and it cascades out touching many more.  Yes, each one of us has a part to play in this vibrational shift!

Each one of us has some gift to give the world. Each gift, no matter what it is, creates positive energies that add to the whole! What was once unacceptable only becomes acceptable when we each decide as individuals to share it with the world!~Shine Your Light~ Debbie
