On the road to success do you get in your own way? (Part 2)

This is Part 2 of “On the road to success do you get in your own way.” CLICK HERE for Part 1.

No matter where you are on your road to success there will always be something that comes up. This is what growth and expansion is all about. You do not need to allow the energies or pictures which inevitably surface to stop you. It is the steps you take when these energies get stimulated that makes the difference between staying stuck and moving forward again. Getting out of your own way is about taking back your power and creativity from those places you’ve given up space to in the past.

Raise your havingness!

Havingness is about how much can you have. It may be that although you dream it and wish it your ‘havingness quotient’ doesn’t allow you to have your success. One can see what I’m talking about clearly if you take a look at how many lottery winners end up broke after a few years. While one could argue that they made poor decisions it is more about how much they could have and felt they deserved. On the other side of the equation you see people who came from humble beginnings become VERY successful. They stopped identifying with their past and found value in what they could bring to the table. Chris Gardner, portrayed by Will Smith in the movie Pursuit of Happiness, struggled financially and then was homeless before he took charge of his life. By raising his havingness he created (and attracted) opportunities. If he didn’t recognize and connect with his intrinsic value and continued to identify himself as a hopeless, homeless man he would not be where he is today. Raising your havingness can be as simple as connecting with your value and that you deserve all you are receiving. Have gratitude and give thanks every step of the way.

Resisting the process

Every journey to success is a process. There is no way around it. Resisting the process not only makes the journey longer it can also cause it to be painful and frustrating. Until you clear the resistance to the process itself, whether it is yours or anothers, you will remain exactly where you are. In spirit there is no time or space. What you create, dream and imagine is already out there waiting for you to clear enough space (and raise your havingness) for it to come in. In the physical realm things take time. Get out of your own way by clearing resistance. There is plenty of resistance and competition in the world today. Step out of it. Take time each day to find peace and neutrality within. Allow everything that comes up or at you to gently fall away.

Measuring Success

Each of us has a different measure of success. For some it is money, for others it is fame. Some measure success by number of pounds lost on the scale while others by what they see in the mirror. Some measure success by their number of Facebook friends or Twitter followers and others by the quality of people in their life. However you measure your success be sure to be specific and include more than one thing. In fact take a moment now to think of at least 3 things that will clearly let you know you’ve arrived at a particular destination. Make one your real goal and the other two from other areas of your life. Picture yourself basking in the glow of success and measure it to YOU not someone else.

Every journey has its pitfalls and challenges but with strength of spirit and perseverance you can succeed. Success comes in CANS so don’t believe anyone who tells you, you can’t. No one is immune to challenges and is happy and successful all the time. Not everyone will embrace your success or support you on the way. It might feel like an uphill battle at times but in the end it is all worth the journey. There are plenty of energies and naysayers that get in the way so don’t YOU be one of them!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Gratitude is in your hands!

The Attitude of Gratitude Changes Everything!

In honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday in the USA it is time to explore and tune into the energy of gratitude and giving thanks. Having gratitude for what you have and all that you are is a powerful energy that will change everything in your life!

When was the last time you took a moment to look around you and appreciate, I mean REALLY appreciate all that you have? How about yourself? When was the last time you sat quietly to appreciate and give thanks to your body for all it does for you? Been a while? If so, it’s time to CULTIVATE your GRATITUDE!

Gratitude and giving thanks allows you to have more in your life  by healing what you wish to heal therefore creating a space for more! It takes your attention out of the past or future and into the present which is where all creating takes place.  It sends a message into the universe that you are grateful for what you have NOW.

Think of it this way, if you brought a gift to someone and they didn’t say thank you then you brought another and they tossed it aside with no acknowledgement, do you think you would continue to give them gifts? You are receiving miracles and gifts on a daily basis. Having gratitude for these gifts sends a vibration into the universe.

As an energy vibration gratitude can heal a broken heart, clear communication & stuck energy, bring awareness to the abundance you already have in your life and is naturally steeped in forgiveness.

Gratitude and giving thanks is not mutually exclusive to the positive things in your life. It also means finding gratitude and GOODNESS in difficult times, or for a person who has hurt or invalidated you.

It may not be easy to find gratitude for, let’s just say, someone who broke your heart but give thanks and be grateful for the beautiful moments they brought you. You wouldn’t have had the experience if they hadn’t come into your life! There is a lesson you learned and more often than not, you discovered how strong and capable you really are!

How do you begin changing and shifting your attitude to gratitude? Very simply, begin by writing down the things you are grateful for!  Include gratitude for the lessons you have learned and for those who brought you those lessons. Include gratitude for all that you are and the abundance that already surrounds you! Notice how your mood changes the more you write!

To cultivate your gratitude, keep a gratitude journal for 30 days. Each day write at least 5 things you are grateful for. Be sure to include those things or people  you are having a challenge with. There is always something to appreciate and be grateful for when you look for it!

Creating change is a process and initially change is invisible because it happens on a vibrational level.  That said, these changes ARE affecting your life. At first you will notice subtle changes, then as you continue the process, the changes you see and feel are more profound! You hold in your hands the power to cultivate the ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE! Take time each day to appreciate your loved ones, your body & spirit, ALL you are and ALL you have!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I want to extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to each one of you.  You touch my life with your light and inspire me to continue doing my work in this world. :-) BOUNTIFUL BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Looking from the Seat of Your Soul….

Photo courtesy of Kate Janes ©All Rights Reserved

Entertain for a moment that you are sitting in a comfy chair and looking through a window. What you see on the other side of the window is your life. A glimpse, if you will, into the physical aspects. This is one time it’s OK to be a “voyeur” and do a little self stalking :-)  As you watch the scene before you also take notice of the inside details and the window itself.

Perhaps the window frame is beautiful with lovely curtains. There is comfort from your easy chair and it feels good to be right where you are. Consider for a moment this is the seat of your soul and this is you BEing. What you see on the outside is life as you have created it. What do you see? Is it bright with gardens growing different types of flowers? Or is it rainy and muddy? Are there rolling green pastures teaming with life? Or is it black & white lacking color and vibrancy?

As you watch yourself through the window notice your emotions. Notice if you are merely working to make a living or living to do what you love. Do you see passion, love and enthusiasm filling each moment? Or do you immediately want to close the blinds and not look at all? Closing the blinds not wanting to see is common. The world outside especially with the current state of affairs may not be something you’d like to look at but in reality this is your life and how you’ve created it with your choices and reactions to outside influences.

Many times people don’t want to take responsiblity for what’s going on in their lives and yet at some level, it was created by them. They have left the comfort of their easy chair to go outside and have forgotten how beautiful it is inside. Some have forgotten, in a sense, that they have the choice to navigate life from an easy chair, and to be in agreement or alignment with what is created.

What do you see when you look out your window? Do you like what you see? Is it full of joyful enthusiasm and zest for life? Does the outside match YOUR inside? Do you find yourself REACTING to energy or are you GENERATING your own? When you are in alignment with who you are and generating your own energy you create your life based on what YOU want.

It’s not that there will never be stormy days and times you won’t want to shut the blinds tightly. You can’t control the weather or the actions of others but you certainly can choose to react in alignment with your dreams and vision of how you want life to be. When it’s stormy you can choose to see beams of sunlight behind the clouds to find the bright spot in the storm and when the storm has passed you might even see a rainbow!

If you have gone outside put your umbrella away and come back INSIDE! Take a seat and notice how beautiful, safe and comfortable it is inside. Align yourself with what’s inside then look outside your window and see what you see. Find the sunbeams playfully hiding behind the clouds. See life clearly and if you don’t like what you see, picture it how you want it to be and watch it change like magic! :-) ~Shine Your Light Debbie

The Risk of Shining Outweighs the Risk of Blending In!

Photo Courtesy of Lake County Forest Preserve

Making the decision to live from the truth of who you really are verses blending in with the status quo is indeed risky. It might mean people will see ALL of you even those parts where you feel you are imperfect. It might mean everyone won’t like you for speaking your mind or not giving up space to their dramas.

You can blend in, going with the flow of others instead of your own but in the end, you’ll find you are asking yourself why. When you blend in, you lose a part of yourself. For some, blending in is the very thing they need and want to do. They don’t want to upset the apple cart so to speak. They are content living their lives from the programming set up for them by parents, teachers or society. They are not wrong for wanting this and you are not wrong for wanting something different!

The rare pink katydid shown in the picture is beautiful! She runs the risk of being seen and eaten by any number of predators. Unlike the other katydids she does not blend in with the leaves for safety. She shows herself. What a shame it would be if we did not have a chance to see her! This katydid is rare and unique…just like YOU! There is no one like you anywhere and you have a contribution to make. You might not realize it but you do. We ALL do!

When you bring your rare, unique energy in to your body you stand out in a crowd.  There is no camouflage and it might feel uncomfortable at first. Although standing out in a crowd, living life to the beat of your own drum is risky you will find great value in doing so. It allows you to bring forth and create a life you are passionate about living! What’s the point of living a day-to-day existence if you are not living your dream?

Deciding to be your own person may take some healing in areas of your life where you’ve lived from someone else’s picture of what or who you are. You might need to clear pain, heal past wounds or let go of being responsible for someone else’s pain. There is nothing noble or enlightened about carrying around other peoples pain and not shining so others are comfortable. You have a divine right to be here and you have a divine right to shine.

Choosing to show your true colors to the world opens up a whole new world for you! Isn’t it interesting that the rare pink katydid flourishes despite the risk of showing herself? She might be rare but she exists, proudly showing her bubblegum pink self for all to see. So to you I say; Show yourself and make your contribution to the world! Come out, come out wherever you are!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Playing it Safe Doesn’t Serve You…

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”~Anais Nin

Finding safety and feeling safe is different from playing it safe. If you are not thinking outside of the box, creating new things and you expect things to change without opening up to new possibilities you are playing it safe! If your focus remains on one thing and one thing only, you are playing it safe!

If you wish to grow and expand you must open up, put yourself out there and take a chance. It does you no good to sit at home and wish for things to change if you are not willing to create that change. No one is going to do it for you nor can they put you out there…only you can do that. When you take steps to find the areas in your life where you are playing it safe because of fear, past hurt or invalidation you clear those limits. Yes, playing it safe is limiting yourself!

Trying new and different ways of doing things might even change your perspective on those things you’ve been safely holding on to! Opening the Pandora’s box of limiting beliefs and finding out if what you believe to be true really is your truth can be daunting to say the least. It is difficult because generally speaking one plays it safe because of an underlying pain which must be acknowledged before it clears.

Being the good little girl or boy (no matter how old you are) so people like you doesn’t serve you or anybody else. Everyone has a comfort zone and if you are operating and staying within that comfort zone everything will remain just as it is! Just because it’s called a comfort zone doesn’t mean it’s comfortable to be there. Oddly sometimes the pain of where you are is more comfortable than taking the risk of putting yourself out there because unconsciously, or consciously, there is a fear and the potential of more pain.

At some point it does become more painful to remain tight in the bud hiding so take a risk and bloom in all your glory! This might mean that everyone in the world might not like you or think you are nice but if you are doing the right thing, you are a good person at heart and treat others as you should, does that matter? If you are happy, owning who you are and living from your truth isn’t that the most important thing?

Scary as it might be, stop playing it safe and bloom! If things go horribly, horribly wrong find your amusement that at least you put it out there! Better to put it out there, have a new experience and learn than to never know in the first place!

Show the world your glorious being-ness! If you feel the need to go bungee jumping or skydiving it might be the very thing that brings you alive and I will guarantee it will move a lot of energy and programming out of your space! Come alive, take a risk and bloom!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Choose to see yourself as I see you….

….and see the magnificent spirit that you are! If you choose to see yourself as I see you, you will see your purpose for being on this planet at this particular time and how many lives you’ve touched along the way. As spirit you are a perfect being so why see yourself as anything less?

This is not about ego, thinking you are better than someone else or about exerting your power over another. It is not that you don’t have anything to learn or that you will never have challenging experiences which often leave you asking why this or that happened or is happening in your life. It is about seeing the light that is the very core of your being and accepting that others may or may not choose to see it for themselves.

There are some on this planet who only see and feel pain or become detached from themselves and others. Others numb the pain and find comfort with alcohol, drugs or food. They hide behind their addictions wearing them like a suit of armour blaming everyone else or giving over their power to the pain. It is a choice to allow pain and addiction to take over ones life. It’s not easy to break the cycle but it IS a choice to seek other ways to deal with pain and bring comfort to oneself.

Many give away their beautiful energy to others looking for validation. You don’t have to give away your energy to heal someone else! In fact at some point if you are doing this, the person you are healing will exit your life because your energy does not belong in that person’s space and there is always an exchange. You give them your energy and take on their pain. When they look at you, all they can see is the pain you’ve taken on.

There is strength in seeing spirit and how you choose to see yourself is a choice you make each day. Choosing to see yourself as the radiant being that you are is not always easy because the choice of awakening means seeing, accepting and letting go of the pain and choices you’ve made in the past. When a light shines into the darkness it illuminates what is there and it may indeed highlight painful moments. However, light also brings truth and eventually transforms darkness into a new dawn.

I see you as a truly unique being. A creator of your life. A bright light shining like the stars in the sky. I see you in your radiance and that you have the ability to choose to live from your magnificence. I see you as having purpose on this planet. I see you as a being of light and love. I see you as a child of God with grace and goodness in your heart.

With all that said, it really doesn’t matter how I see you. What matters is how and what  YOU choose to see for yourself. Awaken to and see your brilliance! Allow it to burst forth from the inside out! Remember the Ugly Duckling story about the homely little bird who suffers abuse from his neighbors until, he matures into a beautiful swan?  You have the ability and the choice to see your inner swan! What you see is what you get!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Please EXcuse the exCuse’!

How many times in your life have you asked someone to excuse you? Asking to be excused is a form of politeness and in some cases, like when you were in school and needed to be excused from class, you brought a note from your parents.

The english language  is tricky if it is not your mother tongue but it is interesting that the same word is used to pardon or release someone AND to offer a reason for something you cannot or won’t do. Have you ever taken note of how many times you say “excuse me” or how many “excuses” you make each day?

Who or what are you exactly excusing and to whom? Are you somehow justifying  or rationalizing something to yourself in the process? Do you find yourself making excuses for someone else? More importantly are you being truthful when you are asking to be excused or making the excuse? If you take ownership of the things you do or say there is no need for an excuse! Ownership means taking responsibility for your actions, words, and choices and how they may have affected someone else…or possibly even how the excuses you make affect your own life.

Being polite is wonderful and I’m sure you’ll agree that we try to be polite to each other but when you excuse and make excuses to yourself you are  not taking ownership of a decision that consciously or unconsciously you have made. Exploring WHY you chose a particular word,  action (or inaction), or why you made a certain choice leads you to learning more about yourself. Taking an inner journey and becoming aware of the “why” opens the door to change those things you wish to change. Why did you say or not say this or that? Why did you choose that action or inaction? Why did you make that particular choice at all?

Every thought, deed or action has a learning experience tied to it. Your awareness and ownership of the choices you make can lead you on a very interesting journey of the soul. You don’t have to change for others and in fact it’s not a good plan to try to fit in with the status quo because it doesn’t come from your heart; If however there are things you’d like to change about yourself, look within to  see the foundation that you built those choices upon.

Did YOU build that foundation? Is it built on your truth? Who was the contractor who helped you build it or have you built that foundation on outdated habits and/or ego? It may be that the foundation of the choices you make excuses for today was laid or programmed by someone else yet you’ve built upon that foundation for so long, it has become a part of your reality!

This is not about being right or wrong in a situation. It’s about owning your choices and taking responsibility for them. If you make a mistake own it and learn from it. Clear the energy, the guilt and forgive yourself. Once the light of awareness  illuminates an excuse consider it an opportunity to learn and heal.

So please excuse the excuse! Take ownership of your life and stop making excuses! If you find yourself making excuses for (to) yourself or someone else in your life own them, forgive yourself and meditate on why. YOU have the power to change, heal and create a better YOU when and if you choose to take responsibility! ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Light at the end of a tunnel

Honor What You’ve Been Through

This post was inspired by a recent very insightful reading session

In life there are events that have a profound transformational effect on our lives. It could be an illness/disease, an injury, an accident, sudden death of a loved one, a major upheaval or uncovering truth about a person, a relationship or situation. Often times these events are traumatic and take years to recover from and heal.

The tendency when a major event happens is to ask ‘how did’ or ‘why did’ this or that happen. Sometimes we dwell on it or become a victim to it and other times we pack it away and ignore it altogether because we are just trying to put the pieces back together, make sense of it all and return to a ‘normal’ life.

It’s important to remember that the cathartic events in our lives are pivotal and lead to true healing and transformation. These events hit so hard that you have no choice but to open your eyes to the fact that you will no longer be able to live your life ‘business as usual’.  They cause you to change direction and more often than not this reality shift is very positive even if it doesn’t feel like it while you are going through it.

Once you have acknowledged and accepted what has happened and you begin to see the ‘light at the other end of the tunnel’ it is time to embrace and honor the enormity of what you just went through. Letting go and then taking back your energy and power is only a part of the healing process. Honoring that you’ve just been through something, allowing yourself to process and feel your feelings about it is just as important as letting go and moving on!

It’s not so much about honoring the experience in detail but that you’ve actually come through something SO big that it rocked your world to the very core. This is precisely the time to be extra gentle with yourself, rest and meditate more. You may need to forgive yourself if you blame yourself and think it’s your fault for not being able to control the situation or that you somehow could have prevented it from happening in the first place.

Cathartic events are gifts! They open your eyes and make you realize what is really important to you! They offer you a chance to see with clarity how strong you are! They give you the opportunity to know you can persevere, change and heal those things which you have control over; Your energy, your thoughts and how you live your life.

If you are in the middle of one of these major life changing events remember that it’s always darkest before the dawn and this too shall pass. Once it has passed, honor that what you’ve been through has forever effected and changed your mind, body & spirit. Decide to move forward with renewed strength, fortitude and the knowledge you’ve just received!~Shine Your Light Debbie

It Takes Courage to Heal…

Photo courtesy of Debra S. Summers

It takes courage to heal with conscious awareness. When you choose to heal yourself and create change in your life you are choosing to uncover the truth and face your fears. You are choosing to face old hurts, invalidation and pain. You are choosing to peel back layers of other people’s ‘stuff’ that you’ve taken on as your own truth.

It takes courage to find freedom and be who you are because it means that you must face the fact that everyone in the world might not like you and you can’t heal or please everyone. It takes courage to decide to end taking responsibility for other people’s pain and healing process. You only have to be responsible for the choices you make, your energy and personal growth. This doesn’t make you a bad person! If someone doesn’t want to take responsibility and take the steps to heal themselves, there is really nothing you can do to help.

Those who don’t want to heal may criticize and invalidate you without ever having done the very thing that they  are criticizing you for doing. They don’t know what they’re talking about because they haven’t ever had the, “courage of their convictions.” They have not taken responsibility for their own healing and are content to live their lives in drama, judgement and according to the ‘status quo.’ It takes courage to stand out and be different; To shine and be happy; To stand up and say, “I have great value.”

When you take the steps to heal yourself you will find that any fear, invalidation, pain, failure and even sadness that you’ve held on to is full of resistance. You may also find that you haven’t wanted to fully face it. If you hold on and resist you fuel and give power to the pictures of your past which then leads to fearing what comes next and/or getting stuck.

Newsflash! Those images in your head have no power over you unless you give them power! It takes courage to face up to the fact that you have been giving power to the very thing that causes pain. It takes courage to let go of how you’ve lived and what you’ve based your life on up to this point. Healing shatters the limits  and uncovers ‘lies’ that at times are difficult to acknowledge.

Healing is a process and it takes a tremendous amount of courage to continue the process, BUT it is not so much the courage to get through the process as much as having the courage to start! Healing clears a space for you to bring more of your spirit and creativity ‘home’ into your physical body. In doing this you will have more energy AND more space to create in!

You don’t need anyone else’s permission to heal, it is your choice! All it takes is  the courage to begin the process. There is great value to taking the path of self-healing and the process is worth it. YOU are worth it! Be brave, have courage and you’ll awaken to a whole new world; A world you call home. Home of the free and the brave!~ Shine Your Light Debbie

Are You an Energetic Punching Bag?

Have you ever felt like a punching bag or magnet for punishing energy? You know what I’m asking here! It’s those times when you were feeling pretty good, went into a meeting or family gathering and walked out like Muhammed Ali just delivered a knock-out punch and laid you out in the boxing ring.

Your head is ringing, eyes are blurry, everything seems to overwhelm you and all you want to do is curl up in a corner and take a nap even though nobody actually touched your physical body.  I’m pretty clear that at one time or another each of us has experienced this or something like it! When you finally get back into your own space, you are left wondering what happened, if it was you that caused it or you get angry and blame the person (or group) who ‘did it to you’. Often it causes you to feel like a powerless victim.

If you have ever asked why you feel punished like this, you might want to take a look at what it is that you are resisting! Resistance is an interesting energy to explore.  Energy gets thrown around all the time and you can’t control what others do whether it be in the body or energetically. The reason energy ’sticks’ or feels like a knock-out punch (whack) has everything to do with how much you are resisting!

In fact, resistance acts as a magnet for punishment and what you resist, persists! The same goes for if someone ‘pushes your buttons’ (this is a figure of speech). When a sensitive spot is hit, if you resist it’s going to feel like someone just stuck a knife in you. The good news is when you clear the energy of resistance the punishment  begins to clear as well.

You are not powerless nor do you have to fight or try to control the energy of others.  Your power lies in the ability to neutralize resistance to the energies or pictures that YOU are working on in your own life. The first thing to do when you experience a knock-out punch is to take time in meditation to find those places you resist. Be extra gentle with yourself and bring in lots of forgiveness.

A windmill does not resist the wind! It allows the wind to spin its sails and converts it to energy that is generated.  You too can stand tall like a windmill allowing the winds to blow and not resisting. You can use the winds as a learning experience and renewable resource to transform yourself!

You too like the windmill can use what you learned to further you on your life’s path so you are generating energy instead of being the effect of it! You can also resist and fight the winds…it’s YOUR choice~Shine Your Light Debbie
