Get Back on the Bike!

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” ~Albert Einstein

In the early morning ‘waking hours’ when I was aware but not fully in the body I clearly saw a bicycle leaning on a concrete wall.

I was a bit confused at the seemingly random image so I asked the question “what’s the bike doing there” and the reply came quickly “get back on the bike”.

Now I should probably explain that many years ago I taught myself to do what I call ‘dream walking’. The general idea is to have awareness in my dreams so I can observe, find meaning and ask questions. The only rules are while I can observe and ask questions I can’t change the direction or outcome of the dream.

The point is to open up to a deep level of consciousness and see what I’m processing and learning. You could say I’m observing and making conscious what is usually unconscious in the dream state. One of the many benefits of ‘dream walking’ is that I remember my dreams and the answers that I receive in those dreams.

In this particular dream seeing the bike leaned up against the wall didn’t seem all that profound. There wasn’t a lot of color in the image. It was just a bike leaning on a wall in what looked like a back alley of some sort. When I asked more questions (of myself) as I observed the scene I saw ‘the bigger picture’.

Around the corner from where the bike was positioned there were beautiful vistas, countless paths, bright orange sunlight glistening on fields and mountains. Everything was wide open. I, of course, asked the next logical question, “what’s this got to do with the bike?” and again I heard “get back on the bike”.

In those early morning hours before I was fully awake I looked back and forth from the dingy alley with little to no color, to the magnificent vistas filled with light. It was only then I remembered turning into the alley, falling off my bike and then propping it against the wall.

I was standing at the corner between the alley and the path for quite some time but all I could see was the small, dirty, grey alley. Apparently I became stuck in that little alley forgetting the bike was not only there to carry me out but to make the journey easier. A bike can surely take you farther with less effort that your legs right? It was a simple yet profound answer. “Get back on the bike”.

There’s a reason for the saying if you fall off a bike get right back on. The same applies if you get stuck in a picture. You don’t have to keep staring at a grey alley with the very means to continue right in front of your eyes possibly propped up against a wall.

Sometimes it simply takes recognizing you’re a bit stuck; then all you have to do is turn your head towards the light, step out of the picture, dust yourself off and “get back on the bike.”

So many answers in those waking hours put a smile on my face. In fact I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to greet the day. I’m not sure what you have planned for your day but me, I’m getting back on the bike. Won’t you join me? Shine Your Light~Debbie

Please EXcuse the exCuse’!

How many times in your life have you asked someone to excuse you? How many times have you found yourself making an excuse for yourself or someone else?

Asking to be excused is a polite way of asking to be ‘released’ from a requirement.

A few examples: when you were in school and needed to be excused from class, you brought a note from your parents. Others are when you excuse yourself for bumping into someone or you are trying to get someone’s attention when they are doing something else.

What about the other definitions? The english language  is tricky if it is not your mother tongue but it IS interesting that the same word is used to pardon or release someone (or yourself) from blame as well as to offer a “reason” for something you cannot or choose not to do.

How many times a day do you make an excuse or excuse yourself?

Who or what are you exactly excusing and to whom? Are you somehow justifying  or rationalizing something to yourself in the process? Do you find yourself making excuses for someone else? More importantly are you being truthful when you are asking to be excused or are you simply making an excuse?

When you take ownership of the things you do or say there is no need for an excuse! Ownership means taking responsibility for your actions, words, and choices and how they may have affected someone else or possibly even how the excuses (or excusing yourself) affects your life.

Being polite is not just wonderful, it’s the right thing to do. Of course we try to be polite with each other but it’s a completely different energy when we ‘make excuses’  to assign blame,  or we choose not to take ownership of a decision that we (or someone else) has consciously or unconsciously made.

Oh yes. We not only make excuses for ourselves but we make excuses for others and sometimes we do this to assign blame or avoid the truth. When we make excuses for others we are, at some level, healing them but that, my friends, is a subject for another post.

Take a deep dive into “why”!

Don’t ask why, explore why. Exploring WHY you choose a particular word,  an action (or inaction), or why you made a certain choice leads you to learning more about yourself.

Taking an inner journey to explore the “why” opens the door to forgiveness and change.

What you notice in self-exploration is not to be judged. What you did or didn’t do in the past is probably not how you would handle it now. The important steps to this are to see what you see. Acknowledge what you see. Own what you see. Forgive yourself. Taking ownership has a great deal of freedom that comes along with it.

Every thought, deed or action has a learning experience tied to it. Your awareness and ownership of the choices you make (or made) can lead you on an interesting journey of the soul. You may even find that the choices you made in the past were laid on a foundation of programming built by someone else. If that’s the case, it’s time to build your own house on a foundation of ownership and truth.

This is not about being right or wrong in a situation. It’s about owning your choices and taking responsibility for them. If you make a mistake own it and learn from it. Clear the energy. Clear the guilt. Forgive yourself. Once the light of awareness  illuminates an excuse consider it an opportunity to learn and heal.

So please excuse the excuse! Take ownership of your life and stop making excuses! If you find yourself making excuses for someone else in your life forgive them for their lack of awareness. If you make excuses for yourself, forgive yourself.

YOU have the power to transform your life. You have the power to build a foundation without the need to make excuses. If you don’t want to start now, what’s your excuse? ~Shine Your Light Debbie

SIMON SAYS! It’s a control game….

simonsaysRemember the game “Simon Says” from when you were a child? Would you like to play? Come on, humor me, it’s just a fun little game.

The rules of the game are simple. You can only do what “Simon” tells you to do.

Simon says raise your left hand. Simon says put your hands on your hips. Simon says touch your toes.

Simon says touch your nose.  Simon says clap your hands. Simon says blink your eyes. Touch your head. Simon says wiggle your toes. Simon says “say HOORAH!”

Wasn’t that fun?! Did you do everything Simon said? Maybe you found it silly or maybe you simply smiled as you reconnected with a bit of your inner child. (If you didn’t play that’s ok, read on anyway.)

Now let me ask you something, did you touch your head? Did Simon say to do it? If you didn’t touch your head you get to stay in the game. If you did touch your head, you’re out. Bye. Don’t feel bad though. You were just humoring me right? It’s just a silly game….or is it?

From the time we are born we are “taught” to follow the rules, do what we’re told, mind our manners, don’t speak until we are spoken to.  We asked permission to do something or we waited for someone to tell us what to do.  Of course, this is good for children but what happens when the control programming carries over into our adult life?

The game “Simon Says” illustrates how easily we can be programmed to follow the rules and allow others to control us. Simon, the control, tells us to do something and we do it. If Simon doesn’t say it…well, we lost. We failed. We’re out of the game and effectively out of the group.

No one WANTS to lose when their FRIENDS are still playing and so, early on, we figure out that the next time we play the game, all we have to do is make sure that we listen intently to “Simon” the control. We don’t do anything unless Simon Says we should.

Do you, or did you, have a “Simon” in your life? Are you waiting for Simon to say you can DO something? Do you find yourself following the leader so you are part of a group?  Do you spend time responding to rules that may not even apply in present time?

Did you, or are you currently, following someone else’s “rules” or, more importantly, are you still following imaginary rules and playing the game therefore allowing yourself to be controlled by them? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions or you recognize there has been a control at work in your life, maybe it’s time to clear the energy.

If you’re not clear on what I’m taking about think back to a time when an authority figure said to you “Stop it! You’re out of control.” (If no one has ever said that to you, or you haven’t felt that way at some point consider yourself lucky.)

Once you remember that moment ask yourself whose control were you out of? (That’s a hint that maybe the person who said you were out of control meant you were out of their control.) When you become aware of and release the control or “Simon says” pictures that are indeed a part of all of us, you begin to heal a part of you that stops you from being who you truly are.

As you release more “Simons” and stop playing the game you find your freedom and become senior in your space. You are present and in charge as the authority and creator. You come alive with possibilities!

We’ve all allowed ourselves to be controlled or programmed at one time or another but when we start living a more awakened life, those controls hinder and instead of help. If you’re having a challenge with this…I’ll help you out. SIMON SAYS find your freedom!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Rare Black Moon=Major Energy Shift 9/30/16

rare-black-moonThis is such a good and right on article I wanted to share directly from Sun-Gazing.Com

“A special and rare lunar event will be taking place this weekend and right along with it a major shift will also be occurring. On Friday night, September 30th, a new moon will rise in the sky, the second one to fall in September as the last one occurred back on the first of the month. Whenever this happens, two new moons within one single month, the second one is called a Black Moon.

Lunar events like Black Moons are quite rare. In fact, saying that they happen “once in a blue moon” wouldn’t be wrong! They are very similar to Blue Moons, which is when two full moons occur within one month, and so they are polar opposites in terms of moon phases. Furthermore, both Black and Blue Moons occur about once every 32 months or so, meaning years may pass before the next one comes along….[CLICK HERE to read more about how it will affect you]  (Excerpt from Sun-Gazing.com)

Five Signs that You Aren’t Ready for a Psychic Reading

I love this post on so many levels! I’ve heard exactly word for word everything addressed in this piece. Enjoy!

5 Reasons

From Psychic / Medium Danielle Egnew

As someone in the metaphysical field who has been blessed with a booming practice for over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege and the opportunity to visit with thousands of different personality types representing countless needs. I’ve made many observations in this field about what people are truly seeking, once making an appointment with me. And in assessing these observations, I’ve found several commonalities that may assist many who are debating whether or not to actually visit with a Psychic or Medium.

Let’s face it: Money isn’t exactly growing in most people’s gardens. And before I ever “came out” as a Psychic, I was a Montanan. As a Montanan, I feel it’s my pick-yourself-up-by-your-bootstrap-duty to save someone else a headache.

With that motivation on the table, let’s get to the five signs that you aren’t ready to visit with a Psychic.

1) It’s not the job of any Psychic to…

Why Not You?

Why Not You?

“Why Not You?

Today, many will awaken with a fresh sense of inspiration. Why not you?

Today, many will open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds them. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to leave the ghost of yesterday behind and seize the immeasurable power of today. Why not you?

Today, many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present. Why not you?

Today, for many the burden of self doubt and insecurity will be lifted by the security and confidence of empowerment. Why not you?

Today, many will rise above their believed limitations and make contact with their powerful innate strength. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live in such a manner that they will be a positive role model for their children. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to free themselves from the personal imprisonment of their bad habits. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live free of conditions and rules governing their own happiness. Why not you?

Today, many will find abundance in simplicity. Why not you?

Today, many will be confronted by difficult moral choices and they will choose to do what is right instead of what is beneficial. Why not you?

Today, many will decide to no longer sit back with a victim mentality, but to take charge of their lives and make positive changes. Why not you?

Today, many will take the action necessary to make a difference. Why not you?

Today, many will make the commitment to be a better mother, father, son, daughter, student, teacher, worker, boss, brother, sister, & so much more. Why not you?

Today is a new day!

Many will seize this day.

Many will live it to the fullest.

Why not you?” ~Steve Maraboli

Many will read Steve Maraboli’s words and take them to heart. They will find a spark, a ray of hope, inner strength and they will make a choice to become the creator of their life. Are you in the “many” who will not only ask “why not me?” but will step up to the plate?

While we would all love to magically snap our fingers and transform, the magic is not in the snapping of our fingers. The magic begins with making a choice. What seems like a small step or a shifting of thought creates ripples of change. Think of it like throwing small pebble into the water. The ripples it causes are much larger than the pebble itself.

Make a choice to seize the day and live it to its fullest. Make your brightest and best contribution to the whole by choosing to show up, to be you, and to always strive to be the best YOU, you can be.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Explore the Light not the Darkness…

Exploring the light“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”~Francis of Assisi

All too often we choose to explore the darkness instead of the light.

Perhaps you just read that and said ‘oh no, not me’ and if that’s truly the case I applaud you because I do it all the time…. maybe it’s just me?

Here’s what I mean by exploring the darkness; Those times when you blame someone else without forgiving. Those times you ask why me? Those times you decide someone is doing something to you and you try to push them out.

Those times someone triggers you and instead of considering it a gift of healing and releasing the energy from your space, you punish them. Those times you decide to label the dark side of you as who you are i.e. looking inward to see why you’re depressed, anxious, fearful, invalidated.

If at any point you have”tried” to let go or been stuck in darkness, blaming others or punishing yourself you are exploring the darkness. When we focus on the darkness and continually ask “why” we are in effort and resistance. Each and every time we ask “why” we are looking at darkness straight on.

When was the last time you explored your light? You know, all those areas you are validated, certain, joyful and magnificent? We seem to spend more time looking at what’s wrong with us and the world than what’s right!

I was recently at dinner with 5 amazing women. It was suggested we go around the table and state out loud why each of us is a phenomenal woman. This suggestion prompted a reading of Maya Angelou’s Phenomenal Woman before we started going around the table.

What I found most interesting was how difficult it was (for all of us) to state out loud what makes us phenomenal BUT I’ll bet you a dime for dollar each of us could tell you what we feel is ‘wrong’ with us without hesitation. Yes, we are all eager, and oddly comfortable, exploring, and talking about, our darkness.

For whatever reason, we humans find comfort in constantly trying to figure out what’s wrong with us instead of looking at what’s right! Why are we so afraid of exposing our own light? Is it some great mystery (we think) lies in the darkness instead?

It’s interesting to note that at some point choosing to explore the darkness changes from choice to becoming a habit; AND because we’re so busy exploring the dark, we are no longer AWARE. We are bumping into walls, wandering down dark corridors and wondering why we can’t see.

We can’t see because we’re fumbling around in the dark trying to force the light in. You see where I’m going with this? Instead of feeling around in the dark constantly talking about the darkness whether it be within you or outside of you, turn on the light! Ignite the match. Light the torch!

The moment we light our torch to see the (limiting) cave we’re in, we are no longer in darkness. The light grows and even if it casts shadows, we can still see! We only need to shine a little teeny light to begin to begin our exploration. Most of the time, we’re just afraid of what we’ll find in the dark yet we seem not to consider the BEAUTY and grandeur we might discover in the light.

The way I see it, once we choose to see (yes it is a choice) and we begin exploring and validating our light, it grows. Exploring the light is about you “becoming” all you are by seeing and accepting who you are. Right now, state out loud one thing that makes you amazing, phenomenal, magnificent.

See how you feel as you are saying it then state out loud a second thing then a third and a fourth. Accept your light and allow it to grow. Take time to explore and validate your light each day. Allow the darkness to fall away and take notice of the light in others. This is how you transform and create change in yourself and in the world!

Consider the possibility it is not the dark but the light you are afraid of. Decide to explore the light. Your light. See yourself as the phenomenal, divine and infinite soul that you are. See it. Embrace it. Own it. Change the world~Shine Your Light Debbie

Are You Attached to Your Story?

Tell your story“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.”~Philip Pullman

Who doesn’t love a good story? We all have stories. Good stories, bad stories, sad stories, joyful stories and unfinished stories that are still unfolding.

We all have stories BUT are you so attached to your story that you cling to it with reckless abandon? Do you cling so tightly and identify so strongly with your story that you cease to move past it to recognize who you are outside of that story? When we are attached to our story, we have decided that’s who we are but here’s the thing, if that’s what we decide then that’s where we’ll stay.

Attachment can be based on many things but many times you’ll find an underlying pain picture. How many times have we internally told ourselves this story? How many times have we told the story to others and how many times do we embellish and change the story?

I recently took a story telling class to open up a new, vulnerable space and find more of my voice.  There are many levels to story telling and I’m not going to go into all of them but I do want to talk about what happens when we are attached to our stories.

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.”~Gilda Radner

As I develop a story for the stage it fascinates me how I sometimes find myself attached to a word or a part of the story that feels important but really isn’t. What I get stuck on generally is a random detail that 1. I’ve placed more importance on the detail than the full story 2. generally makes the story longer than it needs to be 3. is something I’m afraid to say or think I shouldn’t say.

There’s also the part where, for whatever reason, I associate the images in my head with telling the truth in great detail in efforts to be understood. Regardless of the reason, the moment I become attached to a word or random detail I’m no longer telling the full story. I notice my energy is stuck in the tiniest of details trying to “fix” or “figure out” what to say and how to continue the story.

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who drones on and on and you’re not quite sure where they are going with the story? For sure I’m guilty of telling a story in such detail it drones on and on! I think we’ve all done this at one time or another and there’s actually a good reason. We, they, us ALL want to be understood!

What I have discovered in this early stage of story crafting (I have so much to learn!) is that I’m experiencing all those places where my energy is stuck in the past! Digging deep to tell our story on stage or even to a friend means we run the risk of being invalidated or judged.

If we are, as U2 eloquently puts it, stuck in a moment and can’t get out of it, a part of our energy is in the past securely attached to that story. If we are attached to a story we run the risk of identifying with and becoming that story instead of being who we are. We are stuck in the past.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR STORY.

Your story is important because it is yours. It’s something you went through. It was an experience, a memory and a part of your past but it is NOT who you are. If you are attached to “I grew up on the other side of the tracks” or “my parents never listened to me” or “He (or she) hurt me” you are attached and you will never be able to move forward until you pull your energy out of those pictures.

There is so much more to you than meets the eye. Embrace your story for what it is. A story. A great (or not so great) memory. It only has power over you if you give it power and it is not who you are.

The fact is that most of us love to tell and hear stories so tell your stories! There is brilliance and magic just waiting to burst forth. Just keep in mind, you are not your story. Always remember that if and when you find yourself attached to a story, it’s time to call your energy back from that story and leave it in the past.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Your Silence Is Deafening: An Open Letter To the Target Boycotters

People are fired up about this topic and this article is worth a re-blog. There is a whole lot of fear mongering going on and it has to stop. Thank you Gretchen Kelly!

When the HOT topic in the news is who gets to pee in whose bathroom overshadows (and almost deletes entirely) the story about our elected, longstanding, Speaker of the House admitting to and getting indicted for being child molester I’m concerned.

It’s time to wake up and step up for those who need a voice. Who cares who is in the public bathroom? Transgender people have been shamed enough. They are simply trying to live their lives being who they are instead of living a lie. They are brave and courageous and all they want is to lead their lives. I will always lend a hand and stand up for those who are working to find themselves.

I embrace diversity (all kinds including lifestyle) in this world and hold dear those who are shedding the constrains our society has placed upon them.

Speak up and give a voice to rape victims. Speak up and give a voice to abused women and men. Speak up for what is right and just but for heaven’s sake get over the self-righteous and very unfounded fear.

Drifting Through

target

I hear you.

You’re angry.

I get it, I’m angry too.

I’m not talking to the people who are angry at Target because their Pro Transgender bathroom policy flies in the face of their cherry picked moral compass. I’m not under any obligation  to respect their beliefs.

I’m talking to you… the people who have no issue with sharing a bathroom with LGBT people. I’m talking to those of you who are speaking out about this bathroom policy, expressing concern over the women and children who you fear will be in danger because of this policy.

You’re reasonable people. You aren’t expressing hate or bigotry. You just worry. You worry about your kids, your wives, your sisters. I worry too.

I probably worry too much. I have always accompanied my younger kids to the bathroom in public places. When my son was too old to go into the women’s room, I…

PGS - The Way

During the making of my intuition film I’ve been fortunate to make some good friends all around the world.
Amongst them is the remarkable Michael Tamura, the famed psychic healer from Mt. Shasta.
Michael and I communicate regularly, and I will sometime phone him out of the blue for a chat – and each time we communicate he teaches me something new, and wonderful.
We swapped emails just before I left for Portugal, and, having received his permission to do so, I am publishing the first of two parts here now.
MICHAEL TAMURA – from an email to Bill Bennett, April 17 ~
(Responding to an email where I am told him of my struggles with my film, thrashing around wondering if it should be didactic or personal… I finally came to the conclusion that it should be personal.)L
I agree that your film has to be personal and…
