Sunrise over Lake Michigan

Live in the Shadows or Live in the Light: It’s Your Choice…..

Sunrise over Lake MichiganIT’S YOUR CHOICE

Each day we have a choice to make. We can choose to live a caged up life full of tangles and snares. We can choose to live in the shadows or we can choose something different. We can choose to live in open space,  in and under the light. We can choose to step out of the shadows, to fully embrace life, and allow the light to free us from our burdens. It is a choice to step out and see beauty and joy in the sunrise, or to stay in bed nestled safely in our covers.

Although it seems like an easy choice, it takes courage and strength to step out of the cage and often times we just need a little inspiration from others to help us along….

The picture you see posted was taken by my friend Tom Camacho. Tom runs daily at 4:30am and if you’re asking why he is committed to getting up before dawn to run super long distances it’s because one day he decided to step out of his cage of tangles and snares. It’s because he is passionate about running to support Special Olympics and now specifically for a young man named Gavin in a program called I Run 4. I Run 4 is an organization that matches runners with those who physically can’t.

The mental and emotional encouragement for both runner and honorary runner provides a new level of motivation and awareness. Runners are able to find a whole new sense of purpose in their running while sharing who they are running for and bringing awareness to diseases and disabilities of all types. (Please take a moment to watch the video at the end of this post)

Tom allows his passion to guide him as runs in the morning light. He shares his adventures with his honorary running buddy Gavin and all of us, in pictures (like the beautiful sunrise in this post) and in daily video reports from Boris Antonio Snowtiger. He inspires us to get out and do what we can to support those who are physically or emotionally challenged. He shows us the rising sun and inspires us to do what we once thought we could not and the best part is our inspiration is HIS inspiration. That’s how it works!

So, you can live a life caged in tangles and “what if’s” or you can be free to see and be a part of a sunrise. Sometimes it just takes someone showing us the light to help us choose. We get to choose to live in the shadows or live in the light. It’s our choice and it’s a choice we must make each and every day. What will you choose?~Shine Your Light Debbie

Do you run or work out? Would you like to dedicate your activity and do it for someone who is challenged? If so check out:  I Run 4 to get matched with a buddy.

International Women’s Day 2014: Inspiring Change

Women“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.” – Marilyn Monroe

In honor of International Women’s Day I wanted to honor those women before us who have changed the world. They inspire us to do better, be stronger and create. These women have opened doors, empowered and given us strength to dream bigger. While there is not space enough here to list all the amazing women of history, the inspiration they provide can move us forward as women and urge each of us to be the best we can be.

Each of us has a task to inspire those around us for together we can change in the world. Women past and present who show us we have no boundaries or limits, those who inspire us to think differently and not let the status quo rule. They show us we can open doors where there once was a wall and that we can still be loving, beautiful women while breaking down barriers. They show us we don’t have to accept being “less than” and that we can be strong.

Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, Elenore Roosevelt, Sandra Day O’Connor, Mother Teresa, Gloria Steinem, Helen Keller, Harriet Tubman, Golda Meir, Anne Frank, Elizabeth Warren, Malala Yousafzai…the list goes on and on.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!

How will you inspire other women? Will you open doors? Heal a broken heart? Pass legislation? Write a book? Be a friend? Hold a hand? Show love and kindness? Your contribution, whatever it may be, is important and valuable for it just may inspire other women. To women of the world, I honor you and your contribution past, present and future! Together we stand strong as we inspire each other to be the best we can be.~Shine Your Light Debbie
