~ The Zen of Snow~

Today marked the first snowfall of 2010 in Chicago. From the time I was little I’ve always found a great deal of peace and joy in the snow. I couldn’t wait to get outside with my camera and go for a run in the park.

I love to  listen to the sound of my footsteps as they crunch through the snow.  The snow brings me happiness & joy in its simplicity. It brings back a playfulness that as I discovered seemed to affect those I met as well. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE I passed took a moment to smile, look me in the eye, say hello!

It became clear when I arrived in the park that my experience would go beyond going for a run and taking some photos to share with my friends around the globe.  There is a message in the snow….

There is an energy of delight as the little flakes fly through the air and blanket the ground in angelic purity. The snow cleanses the air we breathe and sounds are muted as it innocently falls to earth. There is a sense of calm and elegance as the once bare trees now dressed in a hint of white stand tall to show off, in a sense, and tell us they are still very much alive.

The snow creates a winter wonderland. A magical  place to walk, play and become a child again. It reminds us for a moment of the beauty in a storm, and brings alive the very landscape in twinkling glory.

The snow is playful as it dances through the air as if to say catch me if you can! And can we do! You can’t help but stick your tongue out to catch one of those little flakes. You might even be tempted to lie down and make a snow angel just for fun!

Simply being in a winter wonderland brings you into present time. You see your surroundings in a new light as they are at that very moment in time! Your troubles melt away and once your sense of play takes over…you might even make a little snow girl (like mine in the pic) or BIG snowman with a button nose and two eyes of coal!

The snow in its delicate simplicity blankets the land, comforts and brings a message of peace, calm and living in the present. It reminds us that living in the present and at peace; Happiness, joy and creativity flourish!

Find peace within to flourish! Make a snowman! Build a sandcastle! Hug a tree! Jump in a mud puddle! Grow your inner joy and be at peaceful oneness with YOU!~Shine Your Light Debbie

The Accidental Tourist~The 6 degrees of CONNECTION:)

Six degrees of separation: Artistic visualization.

There is nothing ‘accidental’ about the situations and people you meet throughout your life. Everything and every ONE has a purpose and each person has crossed paths for a reason. The 6 degrees of Separation theory is about how connected we are. What fascinates me is how those connections can and often do shape our lives!

Last month I took a journey into the realm of relationships by offering a special reading on the subject. Honestly I thought I’d be reading about love. What I discovered had more to do with RELATING and CONNECTIONS.

Initially it seemed simple. You meet someone, you connect, you are relating. The connections I’m referring to go beyond that of a lover or friend. Everyone has a very unique and different relationship with the people in their lives so how do those connections affect others?

What I found most interesting was the crossing of paths. I am now very clear this is no accident. I admit that Facebook played a part as my journey into ‘relating’ expanded. On an energetic level I began to look at those seemingly chance encounters that may have played a bigger part than one might think.

Here’s where it gets interesting. I began to discover connections that happened well before I ever met the person. At first glance, it seemed like coincidence but then I realized there were so many instances of 2 people knowing each other prior to my connection with either of them that I was hard pressed to dismiss this as mere coincidence.

Example: I noticed mutual friends in my FB friends list. When I asked how they knew each other, it turned out that they dated well before I ever knew either one of them. OK big deal right? BUT we move in completely different circles and met years later in unrelated places.

Another example is my cousin coming into town to work on a movie. I hadn’t seen her in at least 10 years as she lives and works in California. I was driving her around and she needed something on set so instead of just  few short errands and back to the hotel I ended up on the movie set, This led to meeting someone, a Harley ride on a beautiful night in Chicago and finding unconditional love in my heart. 🙂

Although I am no longer with said man listed above we are friends, I still love him unconditionally and before meeting him I didn’t know it was really possible to  love someone without expectations or conditions. Incidentally, shortly after we met my cousin left the job and went back to CA. I’ve always thought that the real reason she came here was to introduce us. 🙂

Think of how many things have to happen to put you in a certain place at a certain time to meet a certain person or have a chance encounter with someone who then passed through your life like a tourist on vacation.

The chance encounters of people you don’t even know yet could actually be part of  bringing a new friend, a beautiful lesson or very special person into your life! There is no real answer here other than paying attention to how the ‘tourists’ who have passed through have affected or shaped your life in ways that were not revealed at the time.

I’m reminded me of George Baily in It’s a Wonderful Life” when Clarence shows him how life would have been if he hadn’t been there. He touched and affected the lives of everyone he knew.

Whether it is through our 6 degrees of connection or how we directly affect the lives of those we hold in our hearts each one of us is valuable and touches MANY lives!~Shine Your Light Debbie
