Do You Live and EmbodyYour Spiritual Practice?

meditation-pool“Mindfulness practice means that we commit fully in each moment to be present; inviting ourselves to interface with this moment in full awareness, with the intention to embody as best we can an orientation of calmness, mindfulness, and equanimity right here and right now.”~Jon Kabat-Zinn

Do you have a spiritual practice like prayer, meditation, gratitude etc? What is yours and what is the purpose?

Everyone probably has a different answer because in addition to thousands of different types of spiritual practices there are equally thousands of different reasons. No matter how you practice I’d be willing to bet you feel better at some point afterwards. I say ‘at some point’ only because there are some practices that bring awareness to things that are initially disturbing to acknowledge. Otherwise, in general, most of us feel better afterwards.

We release resistance, we pray for ourselves and others, we work on gratitude, and practice however we do then, when we are feeling better and most pleased with ourselves, we get up and go about our day. The question of the day is this, once you’ve completed your spiritual practice do you embody the practice and incorporate it into your everyday life?

What if you went beyond the point of meditating or praying or gratitude (or whatever your spiritual practice) and decided to (as my mentor and spiritual teacher Michael Tamura says) “live the miracle”? This life IS a miracle to be enjoyed and lived to its fullest!

A friend of mine recently wrote about a profound realization she experienced. “I’m finding that my prayer, meditation, gratitude, and the other things I consider my “spiritual practice” are actually just preparations. And that the real spiritual practice is going out into the world and getting down in the dirt with mine and other’s character defects and the reality of life on life’s terms.”

She is so right. Your spiritual practice is not only practice but a preparation for you to go out into the world to embody and live it. It’s not a one and done proposition. We move through our world and face different challenges every day. Life is clearly about the journey not the destination.

We are growing and changing every day and our spiritual practice helps prepare us for the journey. It prepares us to uncover, accept and forgive things within ourselves and increase our awareness. It helps us accept and forgive others as a result of seeing ourselves (and them) in a different light.

My friend went on to say “Accepting that being in the world is practice makes the transition from quiet time feel less like a sharp edge in my chest!”. I loved that response because there are times it really does feel like a sharp blade cutting through us. For sensitive people, the world can feel like a harsh slap in the face after sitting home peacefully in meditation.

When you choose to “live the miracle” you move through the world differently. You are more aware and more prepared for what life brings you. You may not realize it but you already do bring a certain part of your spiritual practice with you AND it has an effect on every single person you meet even if you don’t speak with them.

A consistent spiritual practice helps us live our purpose and become the best person we can be.  Our practice grows a space to be more caring and compassionate with ourselves and others. It helps us open our hearts, move past inner pain and, most importantly, it prepares us to embody spirit and live the miracle we call life~Shine Your Light Debbie

Ask Before You Heal Others….

looking-into-darknessAre you a healer or a psychic reader? Do you go around healing everyone and everything or giving “readings” to those who have not asked you directly to help them?

This is very common in the spiritual community as more people open up to their natural abilities and are looking to validate their experience.

“Some people walk through a hallway with covered mirrors– the hallway is lined with mirrors but there are blankets covering each of them. They go through life believing in an image of themselves that isn’t real, and an image of themselves standing in the world and relative to the world, that isn’t real.

If you happen to be in that hallway and pull the blankets off the mirrors, they’re going to think that you’re hurting them; but they’re actually just seeing their reflection for the first time. Sometimes the most horrendous thing a person can see, is all the hidden things inside them, the things they’ve covered, the things they choose not look at. And you’re not hurting them, you’re setting them free.”~C. JoyBell C.

Yes, some people do walk through a hallway with covered mirrors however I’d like you to consider asking yourself if it is truly your responsibility to uncover those mirrors without permission. For sure I am guilty of uncovering mirrors without permission but as I work to expand my awareness it happens less often if at all.

When you randomly uncover mirrors without permission, no matter how pure your intent, someone is going to get angry or feel like you hurt them. They may blast you with energy. They may project their inner pain on to you as if you were the original cause (this is very common) or you may find them running for the proverbial hills. What you consider ‘uncovering mirrors’ to set someone free might be the last thing THEY want for themselves and although it might not make sense they truly feel as if you hurt them.

Perhaps you’d like to ask why someone wouldn’t want to be free? As a spiritual seeker and visionary I can honestly tell you I ask all the time. I ask it of myself and I ask it when I see others walking through that hallway of covered mirrors.

While I don’t have a general answer for others, for myself the answer is to uncover every single mirror. I want to dig in and dig deep. I WANT to look at those things held deep inside to create change, growth and expansion. I WANT to be free.

Perhaps you feel the same as I do, however, others may not be ready or want to dig in to uncover and look at what they consider ‘horrendous’ things. What each of us has to recognize and respect is where a person is and what they are seeking may be very different from what WE are seeking or doing for ourselves.

It’s also important to recognize that what is really happening is the ‘perception’ that certain things buried deep inside are horrendous. I know some very lovely people who do amazing things on the outside yet think they are monsters and horrible people on the inside. What they don’t realize is that no matter what they do in the outer world, how they feel on the inside shows on the outside whether they choose to look or not.

The reality in all of this is NONE OF IT IS REAL! The only horrendous things in our reflections are the ones we’ve chosen not to forgive ourselves (or others) for. The only horrendous things that keep us from our freedom are illusions which are rarely based on facts. When we grow these illusions and believe them to be real we find ourselves “believing in an image [of OURselves] that isn’t real, and an image [ of OURselves] standing in the world and relative to the world, that isn’t real”

While at first one might uncover the mirror and see only pain and darkness, what lies beneath is pure spirit. The true healing is releasing the illusion. Once you see and open up to the spirit that you are you experience a world filled with light, curiosity, creativity and miracles.

All of that said, if you choose to uncover mirrors I highly recommend you choose to do so with your own mirrors first. Choosing a spiritual path is not an easy journey. It means choosing to look into the darkness. It means digging deep, letting go of ego and illusion, and forgiving yourself and others. It means seeing truth, acknowledging spirit and admitting (and forgiving yourself for) your ego getting in the way.

Regardless of how much you think you can help someone, all healing is self-healing. Allow others to be where they are. If you choose to help others with their growth, do so with full verbal permission as their guide and mentor.

What’s right for you may not be what’s right for others.Honor where they are and live your own miracle. I can tell you from personal experience that living the miracle of spirit is well worth it.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Seasons Greetings from Daily Muse

Seasons Greetings + A Message for 2017 from My Heart to Yours!

Sparklytreenote1

Dear Beautiful Souls,

What a year it’s been. I don’t need to remind you that 2016 was truly a year of the unexpected. If the world feels upside down or inside out, you are right. Yes, it’s much like the cat was let out of the proverbial bag. As we all prepare to say good-bye and good riddance to 2016 there is much to reflect upon.

We experienced exciting highs and challenging lows but through it all, there are those who began separating from the ego and connecting as souls. We will continue to experience a spiritual revolution in 2017. We will see some unlikely souls who were previously silent step forward. We will also experience the emergence of light beings as we open our minds and hearts with expanded awareness.

The New Year will bring many opportunities and each of us will be called on to do our part. It’s time to find neutral, step up and shine from the inside out.

In times of great change there are always blessings. Now is the time to count those blessings. As you reflect upon 2016 be sure to take special note of your blessings. It is remembering those blessings and moments of joy that help us move through any sorrow or pain.

In the hustle bustle of the parties and over indulgence make sure to take time to relax, reflect, regroup and refocus. Connect with your blessings and literally breathe them into your soul. Imagine bathing yourself in gentle waves of  God’s golden light.

Wishing you and your families a beautiful season filled with miracles and light. I hope you know how much you are loved and appreciated! With Much Love, Light and Laughter Debbie

Sending Love is No Longer Enough….

navigating-the-stars

The world we live in is changing rapidly and it is a challenge knowing how and when to respond when we see something we know is not right.

In the past, we may have silently sent love and light. We may have silently said prayers. Now, even though we must seemingly navigate in the dark without a clear guide, we cannot remain silent.

The following is Facebook post by my friend renowned Numerologist Alison Baughman. I echo her sentiments and wanted to share this important message.

“Recently I made a comment on Twitter after I read dozens of mean tweets about another person who happened to voice their opinion about Donald Trump. The only thing I said was that I was saddened by how uncivil the conversation was.

In a matter of a 24 hours, I was personally attacked and for whatever reasons these people felt the need to attack my looks, my work and my integrity. I wonder if people realize that words create Karma just as anything else we do? Social Media, coupled with a mentality stemming directly from this divisive election has become a cesspool . Many of us are saddened to our core about the negativity that seems to be intensifying and we struggle with how to conduct ourselves.

There comes a time where silence equates acceptance and agreement.
There comes a time where sending love and prayers is not enough. There comes a time where you have to stand up for what you believe in and become a spiritual warrior and fight the good fight.

We can start by standing up and being a voice against this bully mentality and if we see someone being berated on Social Media, do not pass by the conversation.
Say something.

“Don’t turn your face away.
Once you’ve seen, you can no longer act like you don’t know.
Open your eyes to the truth. It’s all around you.
Don’t deny what the eyes to your soul have revealed to you.

Now that you know, you cannot feign ignorance.
Now that you’re aware of the problem, you cannot pretend you don’t care.
To be concerned is to be human.
To act is to care.”~Vashti Quiroz-Vega

I hope you will consider forwarding this piece to your circles. We need each other and we must speak up and meet bullies with love. As Alison said “if we see someone being berated on Social Media, [I will also add-if you see someone berated in public] do not pass by the conversation.”

Ask for the help of those around you. Just today I saw another post where someone spoke up and asked for help from those around him. He said he felt like he had bonded with the others who immediately supported him.

It’s really true that once you’ve seen, you can no longer act as if you don’t know and it’s also true that once you are aware of the problem, you cannot pretend you don’t care. This is no longer a world where we have the luxury of not getting involved. It is no longer someone else’s problem. We must meet the bullying, berating and hate head on by speaking up with awareness, compassion and love.

Of course speaking up is scary but as my dear friend Jackie pointed out “To ask for help is courageous. To receive the help gives strength.” Yes we are navigating on unfamiliar ground but it’s not really dark. There are lots of stars to light our way.

If you feel like you need help and support, reach out to me. Reach out to Alison. We are here to support your journey.~Shine Your Light Debbie

The Sad Truth: It had to happen…now what?

Abraham Lincoln “I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”~Abraham Lincoln

I have wanted to write this post for the past couple of weeks but I, like a great number of people, have found myself grieving as we say good-bye to our country as we know it.

Make no mistake we will prevail; we will survive. We will get through it and come out the other side with a greater capacity to love, a greater sense of unity and much more awake.

Many have compared what’s going on to the rise of Hitler and I agree.  I am Jewish and throughout my life I have seen and see all too clearly what bigotry, fear and hate does to people. Is this truly history repeating itself? There is no doubt in my mind we are experiencing the same beginnings.

It shatters my heart in a million little pieces to recognize the overwhelming (and very sad) part of what happened in the election is that it had to happen. In order to take a step up in our consciousness we had to shine a light on the that which was hidden and, somewhat silently, running in the back ground like a computer virus.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”~Abraham Lincoln

It happened on our watch…

What is going on now is showing us that despite the progress and tolerance we thought we had, there is an underlying faction of people who are filled with hate due to ignorance and fear. This is not name calling. It is truth. These people, for whatever reason, feel marginalized or threatened by those they do not understand.

Make no mistake. They have always been there slowly stewing and adding fuel to their fire. They retreated into the shadows, pumping up their egos, growing their judgements and blaming their discourse on others while we were moving forward into the light. The crushing truth of why it needed to happen lies in a universal truth; any time there is a step up in vibration, the light shines into the shadows and what was hidden comes to the surface.

“There are no new truths, but only truths that have not been recognized by those who have perceived them without noticing.”~Mary McCarthy

We WILL prevail…

In order for us to take a step up and move forward, there needs to be a great healing. We also must sadly acknowledge what we may have pushed into our own shadows.

We must admit we didn’t hear what those who still experience racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia and bigotry were telling us; that it is alive and well and living among us. We must admit that what might have seemed like isolated incidences were not, in fact, isolated.

Many did not speak up because they were taught it’s dangerous to do so, others didn’t speak up due to the very real fear of retaliation and yet others DID speak up but, all to often, it fell on deaf ears.

Now what?

It’s time to come together and heal. It is time to speak up for what is right and just. No longer can we turn a blind eye to the truth. What happened in the election didn’t create racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia and bigotry. It gave it permission to come out of hiding.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”~Martin Luther King Jr.

Keep in mind that the energy we are seeing and experiencing is designed to isolate, divide and conquer everyone. This includes dividing those who would band together to stop it. There is strength in numbers and if we are divided against ourselves in any way, shape or form we further fuel the divide.

Each of us has a role to play in transmuting the hate into a thing of the past. Our collective roles begin with each of us looking within to shine a light on where we are divided with ourselves. When we are connected and conscious there is a cause and effect that happens in our outer world.

Step into the light

Whatever you choose to do, do it grounded. Do it consciously with certainty, resolve and loving intent. Seek out those who will help you heal. Take time to reset and regroup yourself daily. Take a social media break. Be kind to those who support you. If you think they should do more, lovingly tell them what you need.

If you find yourself overwhelmed by all of this you are not alone. Seek guidance and professional help if you need it. I launched a series of free (live) weekly meditations called Awakening Souls Meditations you can get access to online or by phone. Join us to release energy, heal the divide and re-connect with spirit.

Yes, each of us has a role to play. Choose yours consciously and with loving intent. Be sure to step out of the energy at least once a day then work diligently towards your goal. We’ve got a big task ahead and we will most certainly need our energy to return to love.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Take Off Your Mask Challenge!

mask-challengeShe did not know yet how sometimes people keep parts of themselves hidden and secret, sometimes wicked and unkind parts, but often brave or wild or colorful parts, cunning or powerful or even marvelous, beautiful parts, just locked up away at the bottom of their hearts.

They do this because they are afraid of the world and of being stared at, or relied upon to do feats of bravery or boldness. And all of those brave and wild and cunning and marvelous and beautiful parts they hid away and left in the dark to grow strange mushrooms—and yes, sometimes those wicked and unkind parts, too—end up in their shadow.”~Catherynne M. Valente

I recently returned from a fabulous Mastery Retreat in Mount Shasta. As a Halloween party of sorts we were asked to put together a costume that will somehow show a deeper facet of our souls. A part of us we haven’t necessarily expressed in the world. For me, that meant having to look behind the mask I’ve always worn; the way I show myself to the world.

One would think it would be easy to create a costume of our own expression but for me it was quite difficult. Creating a costume to express who I am, meant I actually had to look at who I am and as you probably know, this is not an easy task.

Finally I decided to bring along a purple feather boa and 2 headbands. One headband had a halo and the other had devils ears attached. I wasn’t sure what I was trying to say but for whatever reason, those items seemed right. The best part about the story is after toiling and un-necessarily stressing I forgot to pack all the aforementioned items!

The night of the party, I showed up without a costume but with my amusement. A mic was set up for everyone to explain their fabulous and super creative costumes. There were inter-galactic light beings, emissaries of the universe, scribes, unicorns and spiritual guides. I watched and listened in awe of the creative expression! Since I didn’t have a costume, I was not going to approach the mic but then it hit me….

I have worn a mask all my life! I have hidden a part (not all but a part) of me, in essence, under a bushel, behind a mask, my entire life! I wasn’t supposed to wear a costume. I was supposed to take one off and be me. I was supposed to shine from the inside out.

I stood in front of the mic, with no costume and told everyone in the room I came as ME because I’ve worn a mask my whole life. I told them I finally took off my mask and here I am. I told them I took up personal narrative story telling to help me express not just stories of others, but to express MY stories.

It was very liberating to say “Hey, I’ve had this mask on and now I’m taking it off.” Did I feel vulnerable? Yes. Did I feel like I was standing up there naked with no costume? Yes, because it was the truth but it is also true it was the very thing I needed to do.

Dressing up and wearing a costume is fun! We can be someone we are not. We might even be able to express ourselves and share things too painful to express if we didn’t have that mask BUT at some point, it becomes more painful to live behind the mask; too painful to hide and disconnect from others and ourselves.

At some point we all need to take off our masks, express ourselves and show the world who we are. For every supposedly ‘wicked and unkind’ part we keep hidden there are brave, colorful, powerful, marvelous, and beautiful parts, just waiting to be expressed.

Are you willing, ready and able to take on a challenge? I challenge you to take off your masks and let the world see just a small hidden part of you. I know it will take courage so be bold and brave! In a world of so many masks, stand out by taking yours off and shining your light!~Debbie

Let us begin again in love…

forgiveIn honor of Yom Kippur and with love I share with you this lovely “Litany of Atonement” by Rob Eller-Issacs.

“For remaining silent when a single voice would have made a difference-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.
For each time that our fears have made us rigid and inaccessible-
I forgive myself, I forgive you: We begin again in love.
For each time that we have struck out in anger without just cause-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.

For each time that our greed has blinded us to the needs of others-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.
For the selfishness which sets us apart and alone-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.
For falling short of the admonitions of the spirit-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.
For losing site of our unity-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.
For those and so many acts both evident and subtle which have fueled the illusion of separateness-
I forgive myself, I forgive you; We begin again in love.”~Reverend Rob Eller-Issacs from “Litany of Atonement”

Rare Black Moon=Major Energy Shift 9/30/16

rare-black-moonThis is such a good and right on article I wanted to share directly from Sun-Gazing.Com

“A special and rare lunar event will be taking place this weekend and right along with it a major shift will also be occurring. On Friday night, September 30th, a new moon will rise in the sky, the second one to fall in September as the last one occurred back on the first of the month. Whenever this happens, two new moons within one single month, the second one is called a Black Moon.

Lunar events like Black Moons are quite rare. In fact, saying that they happen “once in a blue moon” wouldn’t be wrong! They are very similar to Blue Moons, which is when two full moons occur within one month, and so they are polar opposites in terms of moon phases. Furthermore, both Black and Blue Moons occur about once every 32 months or so, meaning years may pass before the next one comes along….[CLICK HERE to read more about how it will affect you]  (Excerpt from Sun-Gazing.com)

Mabon
Autumn Equinox, 2nd Harvest, September 20/21/22 September 22, 2016 (Almanac)

Mabon, (pronounced MAY-bun, MAY-bone, MAH-boon, or MAH-bawn) is the Autumn Equinox. The Autumn Equinox divides the day and night equally, and we all take a moment to pay our respects to the impending dark. We also give thanks to the waning sunlight, as we store our harvest of this year’s crops. The Druids call this celebration, Mea’n Fo’mhair, and honor the The Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to trees. Offerings of ciders, wines, herbs and fertilizer are appropriate at this time. Wiccans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort the God as he prepares for death and re-birth.

Various other names for this Lesser Wiccan Sabbat are The Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Feast of Avalon, Equinozio di Autunno (Strega), Alben Elfed (Caledonii), or Cornucopia. The Teutonic…

You’ll Get Through It!

sandstormLast night a dear friend called and told me she didn’t ever think she would be happy again. She went through an epic betrayal which later led to her divorce.

It’s difficult to know what to say when someone is telling you they want to give up because they are convinced they will never be happy again. Especially when it’s clear they are still in the middle of the storm.

If you ARE in the middle of a storm, you can’t see or hear anything but the nasty loop that constantly runs through your head. You can’t hear or see anything but the “I should have, could have or why didn’t I” as you review each and every moment of your relationship. We’ve all been in that place to varying degrees at one time or another, myself included.

There is nothing you need to fix or solve. You are not wrong for feeling the way you do. Maybe you did or didn’t do anything wrong. You can only take responsibility and own your part….can you forgive yourself for not being aware? Can you forgive yourself for those times you didn’t hear, or weren’t paying full attention? Can you forgive yourself for having beautiful hopes and dreams? Can you acknowledge the hurt?

Despite all that is happening, the storm and the chaos has nothing to do with you! What happened, what is possibly happening now, while you’re in the middle of it, feels awful. There is seemingly no sun, no moon, no hope; and it feels as if it’s never going to end but let me assure you it will.

The past, the break-up, the separation, causes a hurt that you don’t feel will ever end yet the past is in the past. It’s already happened. You got through it day-by-day. You survived! Now it’s time to go inside and release all that was stirred up by the outside storm.

The storm can’t keep going unless you feed it with your thoughts. While this is true, I know it doesn’t offer comfort for the turmoil in your mind and the pain that it causes. Just because someone isn’t physically standing over you with a baseball bat hitting you over the head doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt as if they were.

I came across the following passage that directly speaks to what happens:

“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn’t something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn’t get in, and walk through it, step by step. There’s no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That’s the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.

And you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You’ll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”~Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

While I don’t necessarily agree one should keep their eyes closed I read the passage as sometimes we must shut out all the extraneous noise to go within. To quiet the voices in our heads; the thoughts in our minds. To bring comfort and kindness to our bodies.

You are stronger than you think. Have courage, faith and hope because it’s really true that once the storm is over you will be forever changed and you won’t be the same person who walked in.~Shine Your Light Debbie

This is for my best girls K and L and D. I love you all and I’m here in spirit holding your hand every step of the way!
