I’m deeply saddened and rocked to the core by the horrific event which took place in Aurora, Colorado. Life is a blessing and it’s difficult to find meaning in a senseless act of violence.  When something like this happens we tend to ask why or what was the motivation behind it but instead of asking why, maybe we should focus on the messages from the survivors, the victims and their families. Over and over we hear them say how precious life is. There is a wake up call for all of us which comes from this tragic, senseless moment in time.

Precious lives were lost and the lives of those who lost loved ones or were touched in some way by this event are forever changed. We as a nation rally around to send love, support and healing. We grieve with them and try to make sense of it all but are we listening and taking to heart the messages they are giving us? Let us listen and apply their messages to our own lives to honor those who lost theirs; Life is a blessing and a gift and to live each day as if it was your last.

Tragedies have the ability to open your eyes so you can re-evaluate what’s important in life. There are even those who survive to give you messages before they take their next step. Listen to what the survivors and families are saying and apply it to your life! They are sending messages loud and clear…every moment of your life is a blessing, it is precious and you never know when you will take your last breath. Are you living life to its fullest or are you caught up in struggle and negativity? Let us all find meaning and not let the messages go unheeded. Let us honor those who escaped death in one instance to bring us messages of life. Perhaps this was the very purpose they needed to fulfill before leaving this earthly plane.

Jessica Ghawi an aspiring journalist left a food court in an Eaton Toronto mall just moments before a gunman opened fire. On June 6th, 2012 she wrote a blog called Late Night Thoughts on the Eaton Center Shooting”. She wrote about life as a blessing. “I say all the time that every moment we have to live our life is a blessing. So often I have found myself taking it for granted. Every hug from a family member. Every laugh we share with friends. Even the times of solitude are all blessings. Every second of every day is a gift. After Saturday evening, I know I truly understand how blessed I am for each second I am given.” Little over a month later she was killed in the Aurora Colorado theater. Take to heart and find meaning in her message. Live your life as if “every second of every day is a gift”

Nathen Taylor, a former U.S. Army Sargent served three tours of duty in the Middle East and was shot to death for no reason at all while sitting in a car in Lancaster, Los Angeles. Is there any meaning at all that he survived war and was shot just sitting in his car visiting a family member? He was blessed to survive and I’m sure his family felt blessed to have him home. Who knows how many lives he saved or the lives he touched once he returned home. He returned to fulfill his purpose and although we might not personally know what that purpose was there is meaning in his life and his senseless death.

Hilda Yolanda Mayol worked in a ground floor restaurant in the WTC and escaped death on 9/11/2001. She died merely 2 months later in November when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed killing everyone aboard. What was her message? Whom did she touch? Why did she survive in one instance and not the other? Only she as spirit knows what she came here to do but if we listen to our own hearts we will find our own purpose and fulfill it.

Think about these people and find meaning for yourself. Discover your own purpose. It is time to stop getting caught up in things you cannot control. It is time to let go of worry and enjoy the time you have here. It is time to fulfill your purpose; Live a life filled with love, enthusiasm and joy. Who knows how many lives you’ve touched, how many people you’ve helped or how you affected someone elses life because you passed them on the street and smiled. Enjoy life and live it to its fullest. Life is a blessing and a gift. Honor it and live it…you never know when you might take your last breath.~Shine Your Light Debbie

Life is a Verb

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines life as a noun. It goes on to say it is “a:the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body  b: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings.” If there is a “quality” that distinguishes us from being “dead” that quality lies in choosing to live life as a verb.

The meaning of life is only truly defined by what is important to each of us as individuals. There is not one ‘singular’ definition. Life is what we breathe into it. It can be dormant and bland or full of sparkle and excitement. It can be merely existing and responding or full of vitality and passion. We can let life pass us by unconscious to the possibilities that present themselves each day or we can live with conscious awareness knowing that there is growth, change and endless possibilities. Life is what you want it to be and you can live it as a noun or a VERB.

Breathe life into your life!

Engaging in life is what breaths life into it. Bring your passion and purpose to the forefront and create from that vibration. Seeing what you are passionate about come to life by creating it moves you beyond your fears and fills your heart with new purpose. Think about those things you’ve created in the past which left you feeling fulfilled. If you created something amazing in the past, trust in your ability to do it again. You know in your heart what breathes life into your life. Follow your heart and it will lead you to places unimaginable because what you decide to bring into being today opens doors to other opportunities.

BEing is not passive!

Engaging in life means engaging with yourself first. The state of being-ness is not merely sitting in a chair void of life and thought. In fact it’s just the opposite. It is a time of discovery, consciousness and healing. It is a time for facing your perceived fears, moving past them and feeling what YOU are feeling. It is a time to bring your spirit to life and listen to your inner self. It is a time for more of who you are as divine being to come in allowing body and spirit to live and work together. Can you envision what could be created when your body and spirit are in harmony? Imagine if you will what it would be like if you looked inside yourself to find answers as much as you look for them outside. All your answers lie within you and all it takes are a few quiet moments to listen.

Breathe new life into your life! Decide now, in this very moment to live life as a verb. Engage in life by turning your attention within and listening to your inner guidance. Shed the layers of responsiblity heaped on you by others which you have carried with you for years. Move past your fears and connect with your vitality and purpose. Live with the excitement and joy brought forth by breathing life into your life! Life is a verb…engage!~Shine Your Light Debbie
