The Accidental Tourist~The 6 degrees of CONNECTION:)

There is nothing ‘accidental’ about the situations and people you meet throughout your life. Everything and every ONE has a purpose and each person has crossed paths for a reason. The 6 degrees of Separation theory is about how connected we are. What fascinates me is how those connections can and often do shape our lives!

Last month I took a journey into the realm of relationships by offering a special reading on the subject. Honestly I thought I’d be reading about love. What I discovered had more to do with RELATING and CONNECTIONS.

Initially it seemed simple. You meet someone, you connect, you are relating. The connections I’m referring to go beyond that of a lover or friend. Everyone has a very unique and different relationship with the people in their lives so how do those connections affect others?

What I found most interesting was the crossing of paths. I am now very clear this is no accident. I admit that Facebook played a part as my journey into ‘relating’ expanded. On an energetic level I began to look at those seemingly chance encounters that may have played a bigger part than one might think.

Here’s where it gets interesting. I began to discover connections that happened well before I ever met the person. At first glance, it seemed like coincidence but then I realized there were so many instances of 2 people knowing each other prior to my connection with either of them that I was hard pressed to dismiss this as mere coincidence.

Example: I noticed mutual friends in my FB friends list. When I asked how they knew each other, it turned out that they dated well before I ever knew either one of them. OK big deal right? BUT we move in completely different circles and met years later in unrelated places.

Another example is my cousin coming into town to work on a movie. I hadn’t seen her in at least 10 years as she lives and works in California. I was driving her around and she needed something on set so instead of just  few short errands and back to the hotel I ended up on the movie set, This led to meeting someone, a Harley ride on a beautiful night in Chicago and finding unconditional love in my heart. 🙂

Although I am no longer with said man listed above we are friends, I still love him unconditionally and before meeting him I didn’t know it was really possible to  love someone without expectations or conditions. Incidentally, shortly after we met my cousin left the job and went back to CA. I’ve always thought that the real reason she came here was to introduce us. 🙂

Think of how many things have to happen to put you in a certain place at a certain time to meet a certain person or have a chance encounter with someone who then passed through your life like a tourist on vacation.

The chance encounters of people you don’t even know yet could actually be part of  bringing a new friend, a beautiful lesson or very special person into your life! There is no real answer here other than paying attention to how the ‘tourists’ who have passed through have affected or shaped your life in ways that were not revealed at the time.

I’m reminded me of George Baily in It’s a Wonderful Life” when Clarence shows him how life would have been if he hadn’t been there. He touched and affected the lives of everyone he knew.

Whether it is through our 6 degrees of connection or how we directly affect the lives of those we hold in our hearts each one of us is valuable and touches MANY lives!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Immediate Gratification?

In this time of fast foods, bigger better and faster I started to wonder what role  immediate gratification has played. You all know what I’m referring to and it’s interesting to look at in terms of creating change in your life.

We want the newest styles, gadgets & toys,  better cars and technology that works at the touch of a button. There is an expectation that the economy can be ‘fixed’ overnight. If we join a WEIGHT LOSS program we expect like magic to lose the excess pounds by tomorrow morning yet if we see something that looks really yummy we eat it to gratify our taste buds on the spot.

People wait in line to be the first ones to get that new cool item using credit cards without a thought about paying for it in the future. Think on that for a moment. If you really want something you go out and get it. OK there might be a passing thought that crosses your mind but by golly you do it anyway!

Our society has indeed become one of immediate gratification whether it is to make us feel better or to take our attention off our day-to-day troubles. Certainly there are things that will truly make life easier and we all want those but the challenge comes in when we not only want those things but we want them TODAY….NOW.

We have gotten used to getting what we want when we want it yet in a not so distant past, we had to make our own clothes and grow our own food. We waited patiently for the seeds we planted to grow. There is no possible way to rush a seedlings growth to HARVEST.  We were all responsible for the essentials we needed. To be sure I’m not saying we should go back to that time! The point is we had no choice but to be patient and trust the process. 🙂

The reason I bring this up is for you to take a moment to look at what you expect from your meditation practice and journey into awareness. Are you seeking immediate gratification? Do you meditate for a few days then give up or move on to the next thing because you don’t notice monumental changes?

In spirit there is no time or space. Things can and do happen instantly! That’s the good news. 🙂 The next part is bringing those spiritual changes into the body and making it real. Although everything begins with your ‘thoughts’ and focus the physical body exists in time and space. It takes time for those changes to manifest on the physical plane.

Becoming conscious of where your energy is and bringing YOU back to YOU is the first step toward creating the change that you seek. It is a continual process in which you grow and expand your awareness. Honor and trust that a process is indeed taking place whether you see it instantly or not.

On any journey it might be best to check immediate gratification at the door. If you question big changes are actually taking place notice the small details. Know that even the smallest change now can shape your future in ways you can’t even begin to imagine!….Shine Your Light!~Debbie
