Learning to Trust Yourself….

Trust yourself and what you see, know and feel is true because there is no one who knows what’s best for you better than YOU!

From a young age we are taught that our parents know what’s best for us and, for the most part, at a young age this is true. In addition to our parents we have teachers and mentors whose principal role is to teach us how (and sometimes “what”) to think. At some point we must come to the realization that our parents, teachers and mentors were/are there to GUIDE us, not make decisions for us.

Why don’t we trust ourselves?

Why don’t we trust ourselves? The answer is simple, we made and continue to make mistakes. There’s that thing we did or said that went horribly, horribly wrong (or was perceived it went wrong) and before we move forward and possibly make another mistake, we look to another for THEIR answer. Isn’t it amusing that we trust other people and seek out their opinion about what’s best for us more than we trust ourselves.

It is far easier to take someone’s advice and not follow our hearts and intuition. After all, if we are wrong or make a mistake based on someone else’s advice there is someone to blame. When we fully trust in ourselves and our decisions we must then own up to and take responsibility for our choices.

There is another piece of the puzzle that we sometimes miss. Did we REALLY make a mistake or did things not turn out the way we thought they would? What if the perceived “mistake” wasn’t a mistake at all? What if those mistakes were really things that turned out unexpectedly right but we just couldn’t see the purpose at the time? We still may not see the purpose but in time, we will come to see the mistake was not really a mistake after all.

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.”~Golda Meir

At some point it’s time to trust yourself. You really do know more than you think you do. This is not to say you shouldn’t seek another’s council to help GUIDE you. The operative word being GUIDE. It is always beneficial to seek someone who may have a different perspective or a solution you haven’t yet discovered but in the end the choice is always yours and yours alone.

The more you trust your instincts, intuition and your knowing-ness the more certain you become.  The more you trust what you see and feel the more certain you become. The more you trust your decisions, the more certain you become. Trusting yourself is about “becoming” and believing in yourself. It is about strength, courage, truth and certainty.

There are infinite “inner sparks of possibility” that when fanned to burst into flames of inspiration. Learning to trust yourself means you may take a risk. You may find yourself vulnerable. You may find courage. You may create a masterpiece, and you may, you just may, find happiness, love and transform your journey and your life. Shine Your Light Debbie

Let Intuition Be Your Guide!

PathIntuition is that ‘gut feeling‘ you experience. It’s the feeling that for whatever reason you should go left instead of right, not to go on the vacation you’ve scheduled or give you the sense that something is or isn’t right. Listening and following your intuition can guide you to your hearts desire or keep you out of trouble!

Intuition is a psychic ability that everyone has. It is more commonplace to speak of intuition than say mediumship or clairvoyance. In every day life you hear people who otherwise don’t ‘believe’ in their own psychic abilities say something to the effect of ‘I just felt like something was wrong’, ‘it felt like the right thing to do’, or ‘I went with my gut on it’. Paying attention to what your intuition is telling you increases your awareness of what’s going on around you.  Like exercising a muscle, the more you use and follow it, the more it works for you.

Are you listening?

Consider your intuition a direct communication with yourself. You KNOW what feels right or wrong in a particular situation. You KNOW when you get that nagging feeling that it’s time to pay attention even if you don’t necessarily know what’s about to happen. If you get ‘red flags’ about something or someone your intuition is telling you something. Are you listening to it and letting it guide you or do you dismiss it?

“Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way.”~Florence Scovel Shinn

Using your intuition is indeed following what you sense whether you have the ‘facts’ or not. It is the ‘gut instinct’ that puts you on alert, calms your heart or allows you to change direction without having to know the exact outcome. You just have a sense it will all be good once you go with what you are feeling. It is not necessary to analyze it because most of the time what you feel and sense cannot be measured. Although it might not make any sense in that present moment what your intuition tells you will guide you on your journey.

“I rely on my instincts and intuition, and I feel it’s so imperative for people to follow not THE path but THEIR path.”~Emma Stone

Each of us is on a path and usually it’s not a straight and narrow one; There are twists and turns along the way and it is important to recognize if the path we are following is of our own making. I recently read a book which talked about  the ‘heart knowing’ before we do. I’ve not only seen this in action but experienced it myself. You might not be conscious of it but following your inner guidance system leads you to the truth in any situation. Think of a time when you didn’t follow your intuition. How did it turn out? Did you spend time afterwards saying to yourself “I knew it!”

I can think of many instances in my life when my intuition was literally screaming at me and I didn’t listen. Now I listen and pay attention more closely to what it’s telling me. If nothing else I become acutely aware of what is going on internally so I’m able to make conscious decisions that are right for me instead of merely going along with someone else’s program.

Your intuition is like an internal GPS designed that will guide you in the right direction. The biggest challenge to following your intuition is trusting it and trusting yourself. This can take a bit of doing but it is very simply accomplished; By following it over and over. Pretty soon you will trust your instincts, trust that you are on the right path, you’ll make that call at the right time or change direction just because ‘it feels right’. Go ahead, try it! You KNOW it will guide you!~Shine Your Light Debbie
