Patience is Not Passive….

Patience is not passive; on the contrary, it is active; it is concentrated strength”~Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton

By definition patience is “Persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; …. Patience is the level of endurance one’s character can take before negativity. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast.” Wikipedia

Strength in character one can take before negativity. What a wonderful trait to have! Energetically true patience creates a sense of inner calm. Patience liberates you in the sense that you trust yourself and your ability to create! When you lose your patience often times an energy has come in that is not yours in the form of doubts or control.

As you patiently wait for your ‘ship to come in’, your dream to manifest in the physical or anything else you are joyfully putting out into the universe to come back to you, it’s important to remember that things take time to materialize and become real. There is a tremendous amount of trusting yourself in being patient but do not confuse having patience with being passive!

When opportunity knocks answer the door!

Follow the signs! Once you put it out there, listen to your intuition and watch for ‘signs’ of which direction you should take. Putting a dream out there doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything. For instance, if you are looking for a job or relationship and sitting at home ‘wishing’ for it, all the patience in the world isn’t going to help. Get out there! See and be seen! Listen to and follow your inner GPS and by all means when opportunity knocks…ANSWER THE DOOR!

Let go of your ‘mock up’ (the picture you’ve created for what you want.) Re-creating it and focusing on it instead of letting it go locks it in place. Holding on is like you not trusting it will happen if you let it go! Create it, dream it, wish it, be specific and let it go. Have trust and do the things you need to do to make it happen! Once you’ve let it go, get on with your life. Patience is not about sitting around. It takes strength and sometimes a lot of energy.

Don’t patiently wait for the right time! There will never be a ‘right time’ or ‘more time’. If you are patiently waiting for things (or someone else) to change clear out the expectation that those things will change. There are things that need patience and some of them take a lot of strength but expecting something to change that is not within your immediate control is a waste of energy.

Patience is not passive. It takes inner strength, trust, faith and energy. It also takes a bit of gentleness toward yourself and others. Think of it this way, if you want to get to the top of the mountain do you stand at the trailhead patiently wishing to reach it or do you start hiking to the top? Have patience my friends but by all means…keep moving and don’t miss a new opportunity while you are waiting!~Shine Your Light Debbie

The Risk of Shining Outweighs the Risk of Blending In!

Photo Courtesy of Lake County Forest Preserve

Making the decision to live from the truth of who you really are verses blending in with the status quo is indeed risky. It might mean people will see ALL of you even those parts where you feel you are imperfect. It might mean everyone won’t like you for speaking your mind or not giving up space to their dramas.

You can blend in, going with the flow of others instead of your own but in the end, you’ll find you are asking yourself why. When you blend in, you lose a part of yourself. For some, blending in is the very thing they need and want to do. They don’t want to upset the apple cart so to speak. They are content living their lives from the programming set up for them by parents, teachers or society. They are not wrong for wanting this and you are not wrong for wanting something different!

The rare pink katydid shown in the picture is beautiful! She runs the risk of being seen and eaten by any number of predators. Unlike the other katydids she does not blend in with the leaves for safety. She shows herself. What a shame it would be if we did not have a chance to see her! This katydid is rare and unique…just like YOU! There is no one like you anywhere and you have a contribution to make. You might not realize it but you do. We ALL do!

When you bring your rare, unique energy in to your body you stand out in a crowd.  There is no camouflage and it might feel uncomfortable at first. Although standing out in a crowd, living life to the beat of your own drum is risky you will find great value in doing so. It allows you to bring forth and create a life you are passionate about living! What’s the point of living a day-to-day existence if you are not living your dream?

Deciding to be your own person may take some healing in areas of your life where you’ve lived from someone else’s picture of what or who you are. You might need to clear pain, heal past wounds or let go of being responsible for someone else’s pain. There is nothing noble or enlightened about carrying around other peoples pain and not shining so others are comfortable. You have a divine right to be here and you have a divine right to shine.

Choosing to show your true colors to the world opens up a whole new world for you! Isn’t it interesting that the rare pink katydid flourishes despite the risk of showing herself? She might be rare but she exists, proudly showing her bubblegum pink self for all to see. So to you I say; Show yourself and make your contribution to the world! Come out, come out wherever you are!~Shine Your Light Debbie

A Lesson on Letting Go

Let go!

The words ‘letting go’ are thrown about as if it’s an easy thing to do. Letting go is never easy but if you shift your perspective and take time to first clear the energy that might be holding it there the process becomes a lot easier!

Letting go doesn’t mean wiping it clean from your memory banks. It is about is de-energizing an experience and taking back your energy from something you’ve given it up to.  Letting go means freedom for you and whatever (whomever) you’ve held on to. You’ve heard of smothering? Well, holding on tightly feels that way so at the very least breathe!

If you are holding on to a picture or energy, all your energy  is in the “holding on” and you are right in the middle of it. Not letting go takes your valuable energy away from other things like creating. It also takes up space which could be used for bringing in something wonderful. Here are a few tips for letting go…

Clear the effort: If you find yourself in effort “trying” to let go remember there’s a bigger picture. What does the situation represent? What are you or did you learn from it? Is holding on comforting because it’s so familiar? Don’t worry about what you’re actually trying to let go of. Create the intention of letting go of the EFFORT.

Say hello to fear: Let’s face it there’s fear in letting go so while in meditation identify what you are afraid of if you let go. Fear comes up when you don’t feel safe. Grounding & centering brings you into present time and makes your body safe. It also helps to find neutrality; Let go of the wanting to know why or why not.

Clear the resistance: It is common to resist an energy picture or difficult memory. If you find yourself resisting letting go of something in particular, don’t concern yourself with whatever it is. Let go of the resistance. Resistance acts a bit like glue and what you resist persists!

It might not be YOUR energy: If you find yourself trying to solve or fix an energy and it seems impossible to clear no matter what you do, it’s not YOUR energy. You can’t solve or fix energy in your space. Your energy feels good to you. It is comforting and familiar. Once you recognize an energy isn’t yours shift your focus and attention back to you. Ground and simply allow anything that isn’t you to move out.

Ask for help: There is a tendency to isolate when your inner world is in turmoil. This is precisely the time to get out there and make things real. Don’t sit at home swimming in it! Take a meditation class, get an energy healing or get a reading! (I know shameless plug :-) )

These are only a few of the things you can do to help in the process of letting go. There is a big bright world of possibilities in both your inner and outer world to experience so GROUND, BREATHE & LET GO of the small piece your holding on to!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Invent Your Life!

Have you ever been told (or told yourself) ’you can’t do…(something)’ or this is just the way life is? It might be followed by a reason like you’re too old, too young, too fat, too thin, not good enough or my personal favorite; This is who you are and you can’t change your lot in life. If so, it’s time to re-invent your thoughts about what you can do, the life you can create and who you can be!

You know what you want and how you would like to design your life. You are the inventor and creator! YOU are the one who has the ability to create or re-invent yourself. Do you show your amazing invention with the world? Does someone other than you hold the patent for your life? Is the patent pending, waiting for someone else’s approval?

As the inventor of your life you get to choose the direction you take and the ‘parts’ you want to include. No one can infringe on your creation unless you allow them to. You hold a patent that doesn’t need anyone else’s approval.

So often the focus is on all those things we want and don’t have or the things we wish to create yet  we ‘but’ them to death with excuses as to why we can’t do it. Oh yes, the big BUT! Can you imagine what life would be like if the great inventors in history said but it’s never been done, but it won’t work, but there’s no time, but it’s always been done this way, but this is just the way I am’. If they listened to all the naysayers who laughed at their ideas we certainly wouldn’t have cars, airplanes or telephones let alone the internet. These inventors had courage, strength of conviction, curiosity to try something new and the passion to keep trying. If one way didn’t work, they would try another; re-inventing until their creation finally came out as they dreamed it would.

Your life is an ongoing invention. The beauty of it is that you get to invent and re-invent yourself each day if you allow your curiosity and zest for life lead you. Give your dreams a voice and take the steps necessary to make them real. Listen to your inner voice to give you direction. Allow your creativity to flow. Raise your vibration and having-ness. Find healthy ways to heal your mind, body, spirit & soul.

“And in the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”~Abraham Lincoln

You have the ability to turn your life around by creating it every day. You re-invent your life by living the life YOU want regardless of your past or what anyone has said you can or can’t do AND you are only limited by your imagination. :-) Put life in your years and ENJOY your creation! ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Playing it Safe Doesn’t Serve You…

“And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”~Anais Nin

Finding safety and feeling safe is different from playing it safe. If you are not thinking outside of the box, creating new things and you expect things to change without opening up to new possibilities you are playing it safe! If your focus remains on one thing and one thing only, you are playing it safe!

If you wish to grow and expand you must open up, put yourself out there and take a chance. It does you no good to sit at home and wish for things to change if you are not willing to create that change. No one is going to do it for you nor can they put you out there…only you can do that. When you take steps to find the areas in your life where you are playing it safe because of fear, past hurt or invalidation you clear those limits. Yes, playing it safe is limiting yourself!

Trying new and different ways of doing things might even change your perspective on those things you’ve been safely holding on to! Opening the Pandora’s box of limiting beliefs and finding out if what you believe to be true really is your truth can be daunting to say the least. It is difficult because generally speaking one plays it safe because of an underlying pain which must be acknowledged before it clears.

Being the good little girl or boy (no matter how old you are) so people like you doesn’t serve you or anybody else. Everyone has a comfort zone and if you are operating and staying within that comfort zone everything will remain just as it is! Just because it’s called a comfort zone doesn’t mean it’s comfortable to be there. Oddly sometimes the pain of where you are is more comfortable than taking the risk of putting yourself out there because unconsciously, or consciously, there is a fear and the potential of more pain.

At some point it does become more painful to remain tight in the bud hiding so take a risk and bloom in all your glory! This might mean that everyone in the world might not like you or think you are nice but if you are doing the right thing, you are a good person at heart and treat others as you should, does that matter? If you are happy, owning who you are and living from your truth isn’t that the most important thing?

Scary as it might be, stop playing it safe and bloom! If things go horribly, horribly wrong find your amusement that at least you put it out there! Better to put it out there, have a new experience and learn than to never know in the first place!

Show the world your glorious being-ness! If you feel the need to go bungee jumping or skydiving it might be the very thing that brings you alive and I will guarantee it will move a lot of energy and programming out of your space! Come alive, take a risk and bloom!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Life is a BEACH are you Having Fun?

While walking along a quaint little street in Cape May New Jersey I came across a bed & breakfast that had these shells on the fence. Each shell had a different saying and when I saw the one you see on this blog it reminded me, as I hope it will remind you, that although there are times of challenge and growth, life really is like a beach and you get to play in the sand!

So many times we get caught up in day-to-day challenges, worrying about the future, or trying to resolve the past we forget to have FUN! Life is cyclical like the ebb and flow of the tides. Sometimes there are storms that churn the waters and destroy those beautiful sandcastles you’ve built. You can dwell on the destruction or you can choose to notice that the sand you built them with is still there. It is merely smoothed out so you can build a bigger and better sandcastle!

What if every day you went to the beach to play in the sand? Do you approach each day looking forward to it as much as you look forward to a vacation? Do you watch with neutrality & amusement and stand your ground as the waves hit the shore or do you get swept out to sea?

There is so much life to experience, so why not have fun doing it? If you haven’t been having much fun these days, why not? Where is your attention? Are you remembering to have fun? If you’re not having any fun it’s time to explore how you choose to view your beach. Do you see it as a place with sand that gets everywhere constantly needing to be brushed off or a place to create sand castles?

Are the impending storms a thing of beauty or is there fear of the destruction? Are you protecting your beach and hanging on so successfully that there are limits to having fun or what you can build? While life isn’t always a bed of roses, you were born on this earth, at this particular time, for a reason. If you consider each moment a learning experience and let go of the stuff that doesn’t feel good you will soon be having fun and playing in the sand again.

It is that which you hold on to and how you choose to experience it that makes the difference. You can’t contain the ocean or control the weather. The sun rises and sets each day. There is flow and movement whether you want it or not. You can fight the waves and struggle or you can play in the sand. You can explore the coral reefs or you can be swallowed up by the waters.

Life is indeed a beach! Choose to play in the sand and build sand castles. Choose to let go of those things you have no control over, learn from them and experience life playing and having fun in the sand. Life isn’t a ‘bitch’ it’s a BEACH and I’m just playing in the sand. How about you?~Shine Your Light Debbie

Investing in your Future…

Investments, particularly in this day and age, are important for our future. What you invest in today shapes and creates a foundation to build upon. Where you invest your energy is no different! The creation of your future depends upon where you choose to invest your energy now and you alone hold the key!

There are alot of people, places and things that vie for our attention but are any of those really something you’d like to invest in? Your energy is a valuable resource. If you compare it to and think of it like money or stock, is your energy invested in YOU or something outside of you? Is it invested in the things you are passionate about or in what you’d like to create or in loving yourself? You carefully choose your monetary investments based on growth and payoff. Are you also choosing to invest your time and energy based on the same criteria?

Although in spirit there is no time or space, time is energy! What do you spend time on; Those things which are important to you or things that are important to others? Investing your time and energy into your well-being, your mental, physical and spiritual health, pays BIG dividends and your energy is a renewable resource. Putting your time, energy and attention into nurturing your creations doesn’t take away from the energy you have to create with. In fact a wonderful by-product is that when you are enjoying something, you’ll have MORE energy!

Investing in YOU is free and you don’t need someone else to help you manage it! There is no other person who can make the decision about where, what or how you invest. It’s all up to you! It’s important to remember that you can’t really make a mistake with this. If the investment you made isn’t paying off as you would like it to, you can instantly and at any time change where, what and how you are investing your time and energy!

If you spend a lot of time dwelling on what you don’t have, that’s investing in what you don’t have! If you spend time worrying about things you have no control over, that’s where your energy goes! Each time your attention, time and energy is invested in something other than those areas you’d like to have growth & expansion, spiritually uplifting and empowering payoffs or self-love it becomes a detriment and you have less of it invested in YOU.

Invest in yourself and live a rich life! What would you like to invest in? It’s your choice! Invest wisely my friends!~Shine Your Light Debbie

This blog was inspired by the following quote from my FB friend, Addiction & Recovery Coach David Roppo:  ”If you buy someone’s love, surely, at some point, you will experience buyer’s remorse. If you invest in self-love, not only will you get what you paid for, but your stock will go through the roof!”

Growth & Expansion: Is it a NEW you or more YOU?

In a conversation with a very wise friend I mentioned that I’m a completely different person today than I was, say, 10 years ago. I see and experience the world differently, spend time daily in meditation, write this blog and do a myriad of other things which frankly I never in a million years thought I’d be doing.

Yes, I was truly confident that I’ve completely changed and in many ways that is really true. How interesting that his response to my statement was ‘no, you haven’t changed. you’ve grown and expanded’. The comment sent me into a bit of a tailspin. He was absolutely right! With all the changes I’ve made, as well as the inner work of self-healing, the core of who I am hasn’t changed! In fact, I’m more ME then ever before!

Yes, there have been monumental changes in my life. My perspective has shifted, I have cleared out toxic relationships, lost weight and stopped living from other people’s picture of who they think I am. So I (with a capital I) haven’t changed. My life has changed because I’ve created change through healing, growth and expansion as spirit! Like peeling back the layers of an onion, layer by layer I uncovered ME.

Living up to someone else’s expectations doesn’t work. If it doesn’t come from your heart it comes across as inauthentic. Living to validate and heal others so they validate you doesn’t work. Those people will merely ‘take’ all you have to give and then eclipse out of your life! Living your life constantly trying to be the person you think someone else wants you to be doesn’t work. Who you think they want you to be is more than likely a picture steeped in invalidation that says who YOU are and what you bring to the table isn’t good enough.

If you’ve ever asked why someone can’t see you for who you really are then it’s time to peel back some layers. They certainly can’t see you for who you are if the YOU, you’d like them to see is buried under layers of other stuff. There can only be one YOU and ultimately you can’t keep up trying to be someone you are not. It is exhausting, frustrating and it will never get you where you want to go.

In essence, you can change your thoughts and actions. You can alter your life’s path. You can learn to love yourself. You can heal your spirit, uncovering the true you. You can grow and expand your confidence and have the courage to show yourself to the world. The cathartic events  that ‘forever’ change you are learning experiences which allow for growth and expansion. You can create and BE the change you wish to see but that comes from strength within. The strength that is already there!

Take a journey within and look at yourself! Find the pearl that was created from those challenging experiences! Get in alignment with your passion and what you’d like to create. Bring more of YOU in and allow everything else to fall away. Find your ‘happy place’ inside and allow it to grow and expand! When you do this your life will truly be changed forever because your true spiritual essence shines through!~Shine Your Light Debbie

Ready to De-Clutter?

Are you ready to de-clutter and reorganize? Are there piles of papers or things scattered about? Do you find certain ‘friends’ cluttering your life with drama? Do you have space for quiet time, meditation and creating? Whether it is your physical space or your energetic space when you decide to de-clutter and reorganize you will have a renewed sense of peace and calm AND you will  have more space to create in.

De-cluttering  is different each time you do it. This week you might want to clean out and reorganize your closets, next week it could be clearing out old friends or  letting go of energies that are not in your best interest perhaps causing chaos or drama that isn’t yours.  No matter what it is, de-cluttering and reorganizing anything that doesn’t serve you in its present form is beneficial to your health and happiness.

This is truly a personal “do it yourself” project! After all, no one can really help you decide what is important to keep, what you’d like to get rid of or how you want to reorganize it. Most likely you can look around your physical space to clue you in to your energetic space. If things are piled up, unorganized, not prioritized and waiting for your attention in the physical,  take a look to see what is waiting for your attention etc. on an energy level. Your physical space is a direct reflection of your energetic space!

“Out of chaos comes order” ~Friedrich Nietzsche

How many times have you wanted to tackle the enormous task of cleaning out and organizing the closets, clearing off your desk, re-organizing, re-prioritizing or getting rid of those things you no longer use but never get to it? Have you ever started but couldn’t finish? There’s actually a very good reason these tasks are overwhelming. All clutter is energy and holds energy! In terms of your energetic space & relationships, clutter is the ‘pictures’ associated with those particular people or energies.

Physical items hold an abundance of energy. As you touch each item you are affected by the energies and memories held in those objects. You are literally getting bombarded with energy! Your psychic ability to feel energy in objects called psychometry and whether you realize it consciously or not you use this ability every time you touch something.

Forgive yourself if the task at hand feels overwhelming or you keep putting it off! It may indeed be simply because of all the energy you experience. Once you forgive yourself, take one step at a time. Clear out a small corner and see how much space you have! Delicately and with grace forgive those people or relationships you are ready to de-clutter from your life and clear them out.

Organize yourself around that which that nurtures your spirit and supports you.  Get rid of whatever you’ve thrown in the closet just because you weren’t using it and had no where else to put it! Open your eyes to what you can create by clearing out a space for it! De-clutter your life and care for YOU! ~Shine Your Light Debbie

Live on Purpose!

Have you taken ’destiny’ into your own hands creating it and living life on purpose or do you find yourself responding to circumstances beyond your control allowing your growth period to take over?

Living life on purpose means taking your life (and growth) into your own hands. It means that YOU get to create and/or re-create your  destiny! It means knowing that whatever comes your way, you are not powerless. You are in total control of how you react and move forward in ANY situation!

Your life and growth are in constant movement that never stops. You can become the effect of it or you can generate energy, purposefully growing and moving toward your goals. There is a clear difference when you do something on purpose, without effort and consciously. Think of it like a run (or walk). You start at point A and want to go to point B. If you are running against a strong wind,  in effort, dreading every step it feels like you are ‘pounding the pavement’ and carrying dead weight. The focus shifts from enjoying the run to just getting through it.

When you decide to run ON PURPOSE instead of just one foot moving after the other unconscious of anything but dead weight, you hold your upper body straight and take each step on purpose with awareness. You become consciously engaged in the process. Those steps taken on purpose, allow you to enjoy the run, go farther, and finish faster. Taking each step on purpose also allows you to change direction at will! Perhaps there’s another path you’d like to explore. A path that is paved by you, not a path created by someone else.

Life is very much the same as going out for a run or walk. You can put one foot in front of the other and move along responding or you can tap into your inner resources, connect with your purpose and take your life and destiny into your own hands. If you are in effort, defining yourself from past experiences, resisting every step, chances are you feel stuck and you’re not enjoying the growth that as spirit you came here to experience this lifetime.

Living life on purpose means waking up and navigating which direction your life goes. It means letting go of the past, expanding your horizons and discovering who you are and what YOU really want for YOU. It means that every step you take is a choice and that you are taking ownership of that choice. When you live your life on purpose, there is no chance only choice. The choices you make and the steps you take in present time are the ones that determine your destiny!

Connect with your inner resources, listen to your internal navigation, discover your purpose, take each step with awareness, change direction if you wish, live your life on purpose and create your destiny!~Shine Your Light Debbie
