What Touches Us Changes Our Lives Forever….

Touch“It is everyday, a normal day, it is one day that a chance meeting can change, influence and touch your life and send you on a different course. It is a smile, it is helpful hand, a comment overheard at the bus stop that makes you pause and think.”~Excerpt from Touch by Ellyzabeth Adler

Those who cross our path and touch our hearts are a part of our lives forever. Even those who touch our lives in passing become a part of our history and no matter how much time passes, our history remains. Nothing is or can be deleted. Once touched, we are forever changed.

The mind may, and most probably will, distort the facts. This is most common when it comes to our closest relationships. Our history is embellished and made more beautiful, romantic, idealistic, perfect; or more horrific, full of blame, disgust or imperfections. However we remember a past event, keep in mind that unless we’re actually watching an unedited video, listening to an unedited recording or reading unedited words, it is all a picture, an illusion.

We may not have heard what we thought we heard. We might have missed something that was said. We might have misunderstood an intent because we were experiencing everything through filters of fear, guilt or even hope. We might have misunderstood because we were not fully present and actually listening.

At times we all have selective “sight” and “hearing”. This is completely natural and only becomes a challenge when we hold on to the past and someone has to be “right”. Distorting the past and having to be “right” is more about not taking ownership for our part. It is us trying to rationalize “why” something happened or didn’t happen; rationalizing why something worked out or didn’t.

Let’s face it, when it comes to ourselves we occasionally experience moments of “willful blindness”. There are just some things we not only don’t want to see within ourselves, but those things we don’t want or aren’t ready to take ownership of. Whether we choose to face them head on or not the energy charge is still there until we release resistance, accept, forgive and allow ourselves to re-connect with love.

All those who have crossed our path and touched our hearts are a part of our history. We cannot ignore, or rationalize and there is no need to be “right”. We must accept and take ownership for our part. We must accept and take responsibility for the history we were fully engaged in creating even if we did not have our full awareness.

It is not how we remember so much as that we HONOR those people and experiences that have shaped our lives and become a part of our history. Those who have touched us.

“Touch is the pure essence to life, to love, to all human beings; to what connects us.”~Excerpt from Touch by Ellyzabeth Adler

Love is what touches us. Kindness is love extended to another. Love is what connects us. Love is also a vibration many fear for love makes us vulnerable. It is fear that causes us to rationalize, get angry or distort the very history that simply because it touched us, gave us a most profound gift.

The distorted memories are what keep us stuck, angry, afraid and unable to receive the gentle touch of a hand or a heart reaching out. Love is what we are and what connects us. Love is so powerful it may very well be the source of fear because when we are touched by it we know everything changes.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.“~Rumi

When Going With The Flow Includes Rest….

Lake Michigan Peace“Sometimes I feel like if you just watch things, just sit still and let the world exist in front of you – sometimes I swear that just for a second time freezes and the world pauses in its tilt. Just for a second.”~Lauren Oliver

Sometimes ‘going with the flow’ means rest for your mind, body and spirit. Last night I went to bed at 9:30pm with every intention of reading. I almost instantly fell asleep with the book in hand.

This morning I noticed all the effort I’ve been experiencing. I was pushing to communicate with clients. Pushing to clear energy. Pushing to get my new website in order. Pushing to make time for meditation and beating myself up for not writing an inspiring blog post.

Lately I’ve been in a place of “hurry up and finish”, “just get it done now”. I’ve been in effort trying to make my lengthy “to do” list into a fully completed “tah dah” list. The problem is that most of the tasks I need to complete could not possibly get finished in one day. Pushing doesn’t help and all the effort (and resistance causing the pushing) is, quite frankly, exhausting!

I constantly hear those tiny but loud voices pulling me in this or that direction. I know you know of the voices I’m talking about. I’d even bet you’ve heard those voices every now and again! The voices are the dialogues in your head that keep you doing and acting instead of finding stillness and taking pause; the voices that tell you, you should be doing something other than meditating, or resting or really anything you are trying to do for yourself.

My tiny, loud voices acted as a control and because I listened to them, I was ungrounded, unbalanced and unable to focus on any task for very long. What happened was I allowed the energy THAT ISN’T MINE to control my experience (set the energy) instead of me taking charge (setting the energy for myself) and FLOWING IN MY CREATIVITY.

I recognized and acknowledged that the “push me, pull you” thoughts did not serve me well. I was exhausted and simply needed space to be. I needed to rest and relax instead of constantly pushing. With that in mind I decided to take a break from my usual morning routine.

One early morning instead of drinking coffee and scrolling through Facebook, I took a chair to the beach to meditate. I didn’t realize it then but my spirit was guiding me to the very thing I needed most. As the sounds of the city turned into the gentle sound of Lake Michigan waves lapping upon the shore I turned my attention within. (Click here to see the video I took.)

In my meditation I saw how much I’ve been controlled and, at times, consumed by the thoughts pulling me in every direction. Sitting in my beach chair I allowed the sound of the waves to envelop me in peaceful repose. I allowed stillness to replace the loud voices.

The 50 minutes I spent at Oak Street beach shifted my reality and it all happened before 8:30am! Right before the end of my meditation I chose the vibration I wanted for the day. (Trust me, if you’ve never done this before it’s a life changer!) I chose to “go with MY flow” instead of pushing or pulling or struggling. I gave myself permission to focus on finishing one thing at a time. Starting with this post!

The world has become loud and angry and it can be overwhelming. Our busy-ness can be overwhelming. Sometimes we need to take a moment to rest and recharge mind, body, spirit and soul.

Notice if the flow you’ve been going with is even yours. Take a moment to come back to yourself and say bye-bye little voices I’m in charge today.  Change things up and take a moment to rest, recharge and reset! I went to the beach. Where will you go to clear, rest and recharge?~Shine Your Light Debbie
