When Going With The Flow Includes Rest….

Lake Michigan Peace“Sometimes I feel like if you just watch things, just sit still and let the world exist in front of you – sometimes I swear that just for a second time freezes and the world pauses in its tilt. Just for a second.”~Lauren Oliver

Sometimes ‘going with the flow’ means rest for your mind, body and spirit. Last night I went to bed at 9:30pm with every intention of reading. I almost instantly fell asleep with the book in hand.

This morning I noticed all the effort I’ve been experiencing. I was pushing to communicate with clients. Pushing to clear energy. Pushing to get my new website in order. Pushing to make time for meditation and beating myself up for not writing an inspiring blog post.

Lately I’ve been in a place of “hurry up and finish”, “just get it done now”. I’ve been in effort trying to make my lengthy “to do” list into a fully completed “tah dah” list. The problem is that most of the tasks I need to complete could not possibly get finished in one day. Pushing doesn’t help and all the effort (and resistance causing the pushing) is, quite frankly, exhausting!

I constantly hear those tiny but loud voices pulling me in this or that direction. I know you know of the voices I’m talking about. I’d even bet you’ve heard those voices every now and again! The voices are the dialogues in your head that keep you doing and acting instead of finding stillness and taking pause; the voices that tell you, you should be doing something other than meditating, or resting or really anything you are trying to do for yourself.

My tiny, loud voices acted as a control and because I listened to them, I was ungrounded, unbalanced and unable to focus on any task for very long. What happened was I allowed the energy THAT ISN’T MINE to control my experience (set the energy) instead of me taking charge (setting the energy for myself) and FLOWING IN MY CREATIVITY.

I recognized and acknowledged that the “push me, pull you” thoughts did not serve me well. I was exhausted and simply needed space to be. I needed to rest and relax instead of constantly pushing. With that in mind I decided to take a break from my usual morning routine.

One early morning instead of drinking coffee and scrolling through Facebook, I took a chair to the beach to meditate. I didn’t realize it then but my spirit was guiding me to the very thing I needed most. As the sounds of the city turned into the gentle sound of Lake Michigan waves lapping upon the shore I turned my attention within. (Click here to see the video I took.)

In my meditation I saw how much I’ve been controlled and, at times, consumed by the thoughts pulling me in every direction. Sitting in my beach chair I allowed the sound of the waves to envelop me in peaceful repose. I allowed stillness to replace the loud voices.

The 50 minutes I spent at Oak Street beach shifted my reality and it all happened before 8:30am! Right before the end of my meditation I chose the vibration I wanted for the day. (Trust me, if you’ve never done this before it’s a life changer!) I chose to “go with MY flow” instead of pushing or pulling or struggling. I gave myself permission to focus on finishing one thing at a time. Starting with this post!

The world has become loud and angry and it can be overwhelming. Our busy-ness can be overwhelming. Sometimes we need to take a moment to rest and recharge mind, body, spirit and soul.

Notice if the flow you’ve been going with is even yours. Take a moment to come back to yourself and say bye-bye little voices I’m in charge today.  Change things up and take a moment to rest, recharge and reset! I went to the beach. Where will you go to clear, rest and recharge?~Shine Your Light Debbie

For Happiness, Peace & Ease Surrender

For Happiness and Ease Surrender! Say YES to Life!

For Happiness, Peace & Ease Surrender“Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”
~Eckhart Tolle

Are you saying “yes” to life or do you find yourself fighting for happiness, peace and ease at every corner?  If you are saying “yes” to life congratulations! Carry on! However, if you find yourself in an internal struggle and you’re ready to find happiness it’s time to SURRENDER and say YES!

Surrender is the intersection between acceptance and change. Many find themselves fighting and in effort as they search for mere nuggets of happiness, peace and ease. Doesn’t it seem odd to resist and fight what “is” to reach a place of ease? Each moment that is resisted translates into a feeling of being at war and the war is not based on outside circumstances. It is wholly based on illusion and internal dialogue.

When we surrender it doesn’t mean giving up or losing. Surrender does not make us a victim of our circumstances. Surrendering means putting down our weapons of resistance, ego and control that takeover the mind.  It means accepting that which IS, letting go and moving forward.

Accepting what “IS” in present time takes our energy out of the battle and frees us. It brings a sense of ease that allows us to say YES to life again. To be sure there will always be something we can go into battle for but when we surrender and let go of the fight we have actually just won the battle! When we are fighting, in resistance or struggling, the greater the chance to get stuck.

Now, I want to make it very clear here that I’m not referring to those who have an illness and doing everything possible to fight for their lives. That is a very different kind of fight. I’m also not referring to those things we must fight for globally like human rights, truth and justice. We all must take a stand up and speak out about injustices.

I’m referring to the  battles which exist in the ego mind that imprison us. I’m talking about those internal negative dialogues which take root and cause us to constantly feel like we are fighting to become visible, worthy and valuable in the outer world.

Keep in mind surrender is not giving up. It’s just the opposite. Happiness and ease comes from being one with our life in the present moment. Being one with our life is accepting what IS then doing something about it. It’s certainly difficult to create something new if you’re stuck and in the middle of fighting a battle!

If you are at war resisting your circumstances you’ll have very little energy left for anything else. Your circumstance (or growth period) is not who you are. It is when you give up trying to fight and control every little thing that comes up that you will feel a sense of ease.

Surrender! Make love not war!!!

“Something amazing happens when we surrender and just love. We melt into another world, a realm of power already within us. The world changes when we change. the world softens when we soften. The world loves us when we choose to love the world.”~ Marianne Williamson

Are you ready to say YES to life? Surrender! Put down your resistance and weapons of war. Let go of the negative internal dialogue and love yourself. The very second you decide to let go and surrender you WIN! Everytime you say YES you choose to make love not war.~Shine Your Light Debbie
