It Takes Courage to Heal…

It takes courage to heal with conscious awareness. When you choose to heal yourself and create change in your life you are choosing to uncover the truth and face your fears. You are choosing to face old hurts, invalidation and pain. You are choosing to peel back layers of other people’s ‘stuff’ that you’ve taken on as your own truth.

It takes courage to find freedom and be who you are because it means that you must face the fact that everyone in the world might not like you and you can’t heal or please everyone. It takes courage to decide to end taking responsibility for other people’s pain and healing process. You only have to be responsible for the choices you make, your energy and personal growth. This doesn’t make you a bad person! If someone doesn’t want to take responsibility and take the steps to heal themselves, there is really nothing you can do to help.

Those who don’t want to heal may criticize and invalidate you without ever having done the very thing that they  are criticizing you for doing. They don’t know what they’re talking about because they haven’t ever had the, “courage of their convictions.” They have not taken responsibility for their own healing and are content to live their lives in drama, judgement and according to the ‘status quo.’ It takes courage to stand out and be different; To shine and be happy; To stand up and say, “I have great value.”

When you take the steps to heal yourself you will find that any fear, invalidation, pain, failure and even sadness that you’ve held on to is full of resistance. You may also find that you haven’t wanted to fully face it. If you hold on and resist you fuel and give power to the pictures of your past which then leads to fearing what comes next and/or getting stuck.

Newsflash! Those images in your head have no power over you unless you give them power! It takes courage to face up to the fact that you have been giving power to the very thing that causes pain. It takes courage to let go of how you’ve lived and what you’ve based your life on up to this point. Healing shatters the limits  and uncovers ‘lies’ that at times are difficult to acknowledge.

Healing is a process and it takes a tremendous amount of courage to continue the process, BUT it is not so much the courage to get through the process as much as having the courage to start! Healing clears a space for you to bring more of your spirit and creativity ‘home’ into your physical body. In doing this you will have more energy AND more space to create in!

You don’t need anyone else’s permission to heal, it is your choice! All it takes is  the courage to begin the process. There is great value to taking the path of self-healing and the process is worth it. YOU are worth it! Be brave, have courage and you’ll awaken to a whole new world; A world you call home. ~Giving & Receiving~For Life!

Drawing by Larry Green

There are just some days that renew ones faith in humankind.  They are days that are magical and serve to remind us of how the gifts we give and receive can impact our lives for the rest of our lives!

In a recent conversation with a dear friend’s husband, Larry Green, my thoughts about giving and receiving were rocked to the core. As a clairvoyant I’m blessed to work with a lot of givers and healers. I have always found it interesting how many people can give yet have difficulty receiving.   In all things there must be balance so to give you must be able to receive and visa versa! You also must be able to “have” what you are given.

“From landscapes to the human figure, I find beauty in people, places and things that others would find inappropriate; to not reject what others find different. This is what I try to achieve. Sometimes what makes us feel uncomfortable defines who we are.”  ~Larry Green

I’m not going to tell Larry’s story, I’ll let him do that and link it here when it’s done, but I will tell you about our conversation and a bit of background. Larry was in end stage renal failure and had to have dialysis 3 times a week while waiting for a kidney. Our conversation took place only a few days before he was to receive a kidney transplant from an altruistic donor. Larry is not related to the angel woman who was donating and in fact only met her because of her self-less decision to give him one of her kidneys.  A true gift of life for sure!

As Larry was telling me his story and how he found his donor I was struck by the enormity of it. This woman was willing to go into surgery and give a complete stranger one of her kidneys! Seriously, that brings the meaning of giving to a whole new level! She could literally save a life by giving from her body consciously, without reservation and no strings attached. Nothing expected in return. I don’t know about you but I really don’t think I could do something like that for someone I’ve never met. This woman truly is an angel who walks the earth!

I voiced my complete admiration for this woman to Larry and as if my heart wasn’t full enough from hearing about her, Larry went on to tell me his feelings about it. This woman quite literally was giving him a new life! I could hear the depth of emotion in his voice as he not only told me how grateful he is but that he felt a great deal of responsibility to honor and care for his gift.  He told me that now he not only must care for himself and his body but that he is also caring for another person whose gift and energy now lives inside of him.  This takes receiving and caring for one’s body to a whole new level!

There are few gifts in this world that are greater than the gift of life. I know from personal experience about the gift of life. My Dad had a heart transplant in 1991. Although he passed in 2001 the heart that he received gave him (and US) 10  years he otherwise would not have had.

I urge you to look into and consider the gift of organ donation.  Registering gives those who are waiting for transplants hope. For more information and/or to register in your state: U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services For information on altruistic donation visit Living Kidney Donor Network.

You don’t need to be an altruistic donor or to have received a transplant to know how important it is to appreciate and care for the gifts you receive; Or how giving cleanly can bring you the greatest joy of knowing you gave new life to another but maybe by reading this your perspective will shift and you’ll have a change of  heart! 🙂 ~Shine Your Light Debbie
