“A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon align in an almost straight line.
When this happens, the Earth blocks some of the Sun’s light from directly reaching the Moon’s surface, and covers a small part of the Moon with the outer part of its shadow, also known as the penumbra.
The rest receives direct sunlight and can be as bright as a full Moon. Because of this, it is often hard to differentiate between a normal full Moon and a penumbral eclipse of the Moon.”~TimeandDate.com
“I find I am constantly being encouraged to pluck out some one aspect of myself and present this as the meaningful whole, eclipsing or denying the other parts of self.”~Audre Lorde
Eclipses fascinate me. They are significant energy release boosters when, with awareness, we allow them to eclipse out that which no longer serves. What’s so very interesting about this full moon eclipse is that although it will be visible from most parts of Asia, Australia, North America and South America it will be so subtle, it may be difficult to observe.
For us to use this cosmic event it is important to be aware of what’s going on the day of, and the days around it. Allow the energies of the earth, moon and the Sun to point you in the right direction. While the energy of a full moon illuminates those parts of ourselves which live in darkness, the energy of an eclipse, even a partial one, eclipses out that which no longer serves. It is best to use these astrological ‘events’ as reminders to help us grow and expand.
What parts of you are difficult to see? Which parts do you not want to see? What parts do you deny? Which parts do you “hide” out of shame or feeling you’re not good enough? What if those parts you’ve denied about yourself are insignificant but you’ve been so focused on them they grew out of proportion? What if those are the very parts that make you whole?
We don’t always want to see the parts of us that aren’t perfect. We don’t always want to share when we are in pain and going through tough times. Isn’t it true that during challenging moments just as the moon looks full during a penumbral eclipse we tend to show others the light and deny or hide what is simply passing through a dark phase for a few days?
“We should always endeavor to wonder at the permanent thing, not at the mere exception. We should be startled by the sun, and not by the eclipse. We should wonder less at the earthquake, and wonder more at the earth.”~G.K. Chesterton
Enjoy the eclipse even if you can’t see it. Know there is a subtle alignment happening as you gaze at the seemingly full moon then, with wonder, look within and align yourself just as the Sun, moon and earth align.
See the light and marvel at its beauty. See the beauty in the darkness too. We are light and we are shadow and when we accept both parts we begin to heal and become whole. It is simply resistance that keeps us from the light.~Shine Your Light Debbie
